Oranjemund Bush Telegraph! / Eddie Heusdens Retires.....
« Last post by Michael Alexander on January 10, 2018, 05:22:04 PM »
Thought it worth a mention seeing as Eddie has been in Oranjemund longer than my four and half decades, Eddie and Solange Heusdens "eventually" left Oranjemund as pensioners yesterday after spending most of their life's in this desert town.

Solange came to bid us all farewell at Spar and we shall no doubt see them when they take up the fine art of pensioner touring....

All the best down in the Cape!

Hi Mike, great to hear from you again.

Reading your comments, we have two/ three refrigerated SPAR trucks that head back to Cape Town every week, EMPTY!

There is a way!

Quite amazing. I wonder in the future if places like this (along the river) could become a vegetable pantry for places like Cape Town, which doesnt have a self-sustainable future in terms of land or water? ... A kind of reverse form the 1980's when Jowells Transport brought veggies and fruit once  a week only from Cape Town.

Thanks for your news Michael

Oranjemund Visitors / NO MORE SECURITY CLEARANCES! ~ 2018
« Last post by Michael Alexander on January 10, 2018, 12:58:05 PM »
PLEASE NOTE!

You no longer need a security clearance to visit Oranjemund, the town is now fully opened since the end of last year and it's an absolute pleasure to see tourist types wandering the streets with their camera's trying to photograph the ever dwindling herds of domesticated Gemsboks....

Imagine if this project could be expanded to cover the banks of the Orange River and surrounding deserts...

This is incredible to see, The Hydroponics is once again blooming! Last year, the mine invested a lot of money into an agricultural project down at the old hydroponics, proving what we old Oranjemunders have always known, "Everything grows in the desert as long as you water it" .

I was impressed to get feedback on the project, sure costings need to be done to see if the entire thing is viable, but I for one think that this is a really positive news in a time when the future of Oranjemund seems so uncertain for so  many....

Thumbs up to Etienne and all the people who put effort into this...  I never thought I would see this integral and important component of our unique town bloom again....
