Our trip started on Wednesday the 12th November 2008 on a very wet (a black south eastern day which later as it turn out caused major flooding and record rainfall counts in the south eastern cape) Cape Town morning at 0600.

I have travelled up to Oranjemund and Namibia many times in the past and have never had rain and cloud cover all the way until outside Alexander Bay.

Here are are some photographs of our trip starting in Springbok - note in the photographs, most of them have cloud cover - we thought we were in the UK!

OPS 1961-1968. Huguenot High 1969-1973.
Military Service Jan 1974-June 1975.
Worked in Oranjemund July 1975-March 1979.

Life's journey is not to
arrive at the grave safely
in a well preserved body,
but rather to skid in sideways,
totally worn out, shouting
'..holy sh*t ..what a ride!

Some more shots!

These shots are views many of us saw when returning to Oranjemund by road from holidays or boarding schools.

Note the many new mine dumps on the Oranjemund side!

Oranjemund security check point after Namibian customs clearance.
We needed to get our key cards for clearance to Oranjemund here.

Here we go again.

I must just add something - there has been made mention on another topic that the colour scheme of the town is not to some peoples liking. Yes some GM's wife went over board with painting the town - I visited Oranjemund 4 years ago  when Rainer Siebers left town - with my trip back to Oranjemund this time for the reunion I have seen changes for the better in Oranjemund - that is life there will always be change.

The following photographs were taking during the 5 days we were in Oranjemund - some from the top of Swartkops look out point (look out site was setup by Dr Williams and his wife for Oranjemund - Oranjemunders of the 70s will remember him as one of our dentists) and others while driving into town.

The gun club photographs are of our first night and drink in Oranjemund.

Going to town - quite a strange feeling - going back to a town that was run by a generation older than you when you left and returning to a town run by a generation two decades younger?
