Compliments of Tuys De Wet, one can see the rail lines west of the mine store....

Not sure if this is late 60's or early 70's......

Lost Diamonds! / RIP ~ Lattitia Gray!

Really Sad to hear of the passing of Lattitia Gray recently.

Thoughts and prayers go out the Gary and Jessica in particular and to the rest of the family.

We attended the memorial service in Luderitz this past weekend where about seventy people attended.

Lattitia was an awesome and down to earth person who was never shy to speak her mind and had an amazing bubbly character that will be missed.

It was nice to see ex Oranjemunders, Mike and Jason Burgess at the service also.

Oranjemund Bush Telegraph! / Why I think Kudu Gas will never happen!
« Last post by Michael Alexander on May 13, 2019, 04:36:47 PM »
I was in Luderitz this past weekend and was impressed to see three wind turbines on the hills to the east of the town.
I always thought Oranjemund had sufficient Wind to do this.

I did some research into it and found a 2017 article at

LINK: https://neweralive.na/posts/n180-million-wind-farm-commissioned-at-luderitz

Part of the article states:

Quote
This will reduce energy imports while at the same time creating vital local economic development opportunities. Said Ndilula. Eighteen power purchase agreements, translation into the supply of 171 MW of renewable energy, have been signed with independent power producers (IPPs). Together, the 18 IPPs will invest a combined amount of approximately N$4.2 billion in the local electricity supply sector, and ultimately the Namibian economy in the next 24 months, said Ndilula.

This was interesting because... if one does the Maths.

Last time I checked , Kudu Gas was running at around 36 Billion for 600MW ,for a finite source.
IPP's generat green energy , 200MW for around N$5 billion.

This is why KUDU Gas will never happen. Old tech....... too expensive.

Luderitz took the initiative above and now have three turbines generating infinite power.
Pity Oranjemund Town Council was not so progressive. Three of these turbines on the dune ridge
north of the town would do wonders.

Just my thoughts I guess...

Lost Diamonds! / RIP ~ Tracey Hockney!

A bit late to post, But from my era in Oranjemund, The passing of Tracey Hockney at such a young age reminds us all of how short life can be.

Condolences to the entire family and in particular to Mary and Dave,

I recall call playing with Tracey and Steven when they lived next door to Rhona's clan in 7th avenue....

Tracey was in town a few months ago to renew her license and always took time to pop into Spar to greet.

We have a lot of history, Tracey being our neighbour across the road when she was married to Scala....

When I first saw the photographs, crop circles sprang to mind.

Heard that a 5000 buck reward for the names of the culprits has been offered..
