Another on of the old stalwarts of that had legendary status back in the good 'ol Oranjemund Days.

Phillipus Jacobus Meyer (Flip) 28/4/1936 -14/8/2019

I know old man Arthur Conry sits in my office daily and at least once a week talks about his old mate Phill, mentioning Kleinzee days.

Condolences  to the family.......

Lost Diamonds! / RIP ~ Chris Jones!

Sad to hear of the passing of ex Oranjemunder, Chris Jones, especially at such a young age.

Chris, was at School with me in Cape Town and was three years ahead. He also was a awesome rugby player, playing both 1st Team rugby for school and Club Rugby at Hamiltons in Cape Town and for the Oranjemund Rugby Club.

I recall he was a trendsetter with New Wave and had all the music and dressed to the nines.

Chris also lent his Vic 20 computer to me one holiday and this got me interested in Pc's and IT.

Chris had been in contact with me some 10 months ago, looking to do a quick visit to the home town....

Shall miss this mate, the record holder at downing a 500ml draught in under a second.....

The Oranjemund Town Council, Has released there new Tariff Book for 2019/2020.

A number of interesting question arise from this, including wanting to charge businesses in the town a levy for plastic bags,  A decision which they made without consulting the stakeholders in the industry.

I wonder if they are aware that the Gov is currently pushing regulation for this exact thing and that they released a media briefing to this effect yesterday....

Oranjemund Visitors / Re: NO MORE SECURITY CLEARANCES! ~ 2018

We did a quick tour of O'Mund - Luderitz-Ais Ais etc earlier this year. Border was painless, roads beautiful, towns without barbed wire fencing or electric fencing quite amazing. No bread to buy in Oranjemund and "restaurant" near border the less said the better. Otherwise we were pleasantly taken aback by O"Mund: Very clean and green and the gemsbok know who'se boss! Unfortunately little info about developments e.g. various housing developments. Maybe some locals will start a Tourism bureau/hokkie one day ... (Just a thought). Rosh Pinah was a pleasant surprise as were the developing tourism facilities between K'Hoop - Canyon - Ais- Ais and Orange River. Fencing has been removed over 100's km and restocking was underway.

Well the banks have their valuators in town for the last four days to assist in the approving of house loans for private folk. SOme private folk have already paid cash for their houses and are now awaiting the arrival of deed of sales.

Namdeb employees are still awaiting their fate as the union continues to drag the affair further down the road.

Already heard of folk that want to sell up in Swakop and move here, due to cheaper property and location.

Interesting times that I never thought I would see in my lifetime...
