The Time Is About to Change to Daylight Savings Time..... A lot of people in Namibia do not like this. I know the business community in General don't agree ar, they do 95% of their business (communications) with South Africa, and when the time changes you lose 3 hours in a day.... 1 Hour because you start an hour later, two hours either way of two different lunch times.... and then an hour when the SOuth Africans are closed and you still need to phone them for something....

The whole idea why this was done, was to prevent schoolkids from having to walk to school in the dark....

Close during lunchtime ?? ...  thats become an antiquated thing largely .. always somebody at the switchboard ..  although I do wish  banks  etc  would structure their lunchours differently .. as  a lot of unfortunates have to stand in   queu's  while they run  skeleton during  " standard  1 - 2 PM ..  but yes  I suppose its  hectic when theres a 3 hour difference  on the same  subcontinent ...

The border posts stay open till 10, but the SARS office at Alex bay close at 16h00, in our case with daylight savings that will be 15h00....

Yes it,s fine in winter when we put the clocks back 1 hr.........
but last week we put the clocks FORWARD 1 hour........it takes me about
3 weeks to get my body time sorted out!!!!But then I'm an ol' lady!!!!!!...........
so your dad thinks!!!!!

We always had daylight saving in the UK and during the war years they had double D/S
that was two hours forwards and back.

I don't remember what they did in them years we spent in Africa.

We moved to Victoria Australia in the back end of the seventies and they had daylight saving
we loved it especially that extra hour when they put the clocks back.

In Queensland (we have lived here for 20 years) they had a trial run a few years ago, they
kicked it out after a few years.

Some of the oldies came out and said the extra hour faded the curtains the farmers were confused
at what time they should milk the cows and I know personally a friend that would leave her watch the same time
as she would not know the right time to make dinner

We still miss it middle of summer its dark at 7:30 pm.the border towns Coolangatta and Tweed Heads have the headache
of NSW have daylight saving and Queensland has not D/S.

Crazy!!! there is a bridge you cross from NSW it takes 1 hour and 10 minuets but by the same token its minus that when you go the other way.................Frank.............. 202

NAMIBIAN WINTER TIME CHANGE



Please note that in accordance with the Namibian Time Change Act, the Namibian Winter Time Change will commence on Sunday, 5 April 2009 when the clocks will be turned back by 1 hour at 02h00. It is advisable to move your time devices 1 hour back before you go to bed on Saturday evening

SONDAG is die lente amptelik hier wanneer Namibiërs se sonskynure smiddae weer langer is met die tydsverandering wat intree.

Die amptelike tyd wanneer die horlosies 'n uur vorentoe gestel moet word, is Sondag, 6 September om 02:00. Dié praktyk spruit uit die Namibiese Tydwet, Wet no. 3 van 1994, wat die winter- en somertyd in Namibië reguleer.

Die wet bepaal dat somertyd op die eerste Sondag in September twee ure voor Greenwichtyd gestel moet word.

Namibiërs wat nie Sondag om 02:00 die verstelling wil doen nie, kan die tyd op hul horlosies reeds Saterdagaand vorentoe stel.

Wait till you guys get to Australia in summer. 

Here were have daylight saving madness.  In Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland there is no daylight saving (although they are considering it).

In South Australia, Victoria, NWS, Tasmania and ACT they have 1 hr daylight saving. 

Normally there is a 1.5 hr difference between Western Australia and the Northern Territory and South Australia and 2 hrs for the other states on the east coast.

But not in summer when the extra 1 hour kicks in for some of the states.
So you can be in Western Australia at 12 noon and it is 2.30 pm in South Australia but only 1.30 pm in the Northern Territory which is (usually) on the same time zone as South Australia.  On the east coast it will be 3 pm when its 12 noon in WA, but not Queensland where it will be 2 pm. So Queensland will be 30 minutes behind South Australia even though it is further east and normally 30 minutes ahead!

Even worse is that some of the states starts daylight saving later or earlier than other states.  Then its really mayhem.

Hello Malcolm!! as you say its very confusing daylight saving here in Australia, as you probable no we do not have it here in QLD.

A few years ago they tried it then knocked it back.

Well the Premier Anna Bligh has indicated she might try it in the south east corner, and as I said in an earlier post about the time it takes to cross the bridge from NSW to QLD.

If Ms Bligh decides this is the way to go (I don't mind it one bit) I hope someone can invent a time piece that can automatically adjust its self as we cross these borders...................................................Frank...................................

Having grown up with the clocks changing twice a year in the UK I found it strange not having to change the clock when we first emigrated to Oranjemund. However, if I remember correctly, back in the early seventies in the UK, it was decided by the powers to be that there would be no time changes for a specific year. If I'm right, I think this caused quite a bit of mayhem and confusion amongst other things.

Does anyone else remember this..................?????????
