Eens 'n Oranjemunder altyd 'n Oranjemunder.

Thanks to this site great memories have come back to life of the school, junior soccer, Scouts, the pool... the whole wonderful place. We lived in Oranjemund from '74 - '79. My father Neil worked as an electrician and mother Susan worked 'in town'. She was for a time secretary to Dr. Corvinus. I went to OPS (I was in Std 5 in 1979 with Patricia Lotte - great photo's) along with my sisters Lisa and Natalie. Thanks for all your hard work with this site.

My parents [Jackie and Manie Steyn] abducted me from PE to live in the Namib from 4 yrs old to the end of my Std 3 year... and as [now old] adult I bump into O-munders all over: Who knew the town of 1 mile by 1.5 mile small when we lived there [we = cousins the Barratts, friends like the Walters, and school friends] could have housed so many people! Anyway, thanks to O-mund this Boeremeisie learnt to speak fluent English and understand German tourists gossiping at the Cape Town Waterfront! Go, O-mund! BTW I inherited abt a hundred grey and white photos taken by my late Dad on a Brownie Box camera, with such mysterious captions on the back: "Pink pan when it was still pink" and [same-looking grey pics] "Pink pan after it became blue when the Mouth was opened". I know it was abouth 1961 when we lived there cos my PE cousins teased me mercilessly and made me cry when they wouldn't let me wave the new RSA flag with them when Union of SA became a Rebublic! Memories: classmates Annemarie & Elsabé; Voortrekkers; singing small solo role in school operetta; participating in some type of bicycle decorating contest every year; being compensated the huge sum of 5 pounds for what must have been a 4-5 carrat rough diamond I picked up in a [dirt] road in the town! Happy to connect with others from that era.
