This is just a test run, I am going to try and upload full versions of scanned old Newsletters in Here. Three things to bear in mind....


1) In order to read these documents, you will need a pdf reader like Acrobat Reader of Nitro.

2) Check what the file size of the file is before you start your download. The average file will be    about 4 - 5 megs in size, so if you have a slow connection, don't waste your time.

3) When clicking on the link, right click , then choose, Save file As..... then choose where on your pc you intend to download the file to.

Ok..... since I last wrote about this topic, I have figured out, how to get the size of an entire Newsletter down to less than 3 megs and still maintain the quality.....

What I intend doing, is rescanning the Newsletters and as I get them ready, upload them in pdf format with a thumbnail of the cover...

I was battling to figure out why I could not upload attachments larger than 2 megs, even though I had set the setting in the Admin function.... It turned out, I needed to contact my host provider to change a setting on a file I could not access.... this was done this afternoon, so next week, check back in here and see the number of Newsletters increase....

On the mainsite are also a number of Newsletters, they were jpeg scans when I first started the site, but as times and advice flows in (Thanks Gert), the format changes and I intend to eventually host all the Newsletters here....

As stated elsewhere on this forum, I have recently been given a large collection of Newsletters dated 1969,1970,1971 and then 1989...

Way back, about three years ago, when this site started, I originally placed the Scanned Newsletters up on the main site, as time went by, things cluttered up and the Forum proved to be the perfect place to host copies of the Newsletters.

SO you will start to see a few more Newsletters creep onto the board, some "new" and some that were posted as JPEG images on the Main site.
I plan to have all the Newsletters converted into pdf documents. Some of the Scans of the earlier stuff was not too sharp, but I have eventually figured out the right specs for the new stuff....

In time , I want the mainpage on the mainsite to change to a more Oranjemund information site, with links to the historical section and the forum....'

Oh, and you will also see that the Newsletters that are on the larger size, will not show how often they have been downloaded as they are not "attached " to the forum, but have been put on the server via ftp. This is because the server software battles to handle files larger than 2megs ...the average size of those Newsletters is about 5,3 megs.... but well worth the download..
