Just remember to backup all your important data and pics and you will never need to use any of the tools.
All Pc's and Laptops will breakdown sooner or later.

All these tools can be used to extracted data off a Windows PC even if its password protected.
Any Linux OS cd or dvd can be used to. There are about 500 versions and still counting.

Thanks for the ongoing advice  Mike ,, I do regular backups  and store on CD...  plus laptop  and work PC  mirror images of each other  in docs and pictures ,,, i know of a few folk ,, laptop  stolen and  all work lost ,,,  ouch ....

I've used a mini Linux sitting on a USB stick that you can just plug into a WINDOWS machine, boot from the usb and bypass all of the WIndows security, like passwords and access all the info on the machine.... piece of cake.........

Portable hard drives are cheep and accessible with 500 GB storage capacity and up to 1 terabyte for around 120 US dollars. Computers that are a couple of years old will have hard drives varying from 160 GB upwards so in essence you can easily download all your data onto you P/Hard drive.

I remember when I owned a massive 20gig drive back in the day....Wow! How on earth am I ever gonna fill this thing up..... Well I did, then I needed a 60 Gig, "never gonna fill this up ", I thought to myself....... er....uhm! Well I did, Roll out the 20 Gig,   cut to the chase, I now have multiple SATA drives with a capacity of 2.4 T of space, and access to a further 100gigs on the home network, but Last night I was pondering the fact that I will be needing to purchase another 1-2 T drive soon...... SIgh! The junk I collect.......

Why not install Linuxmint on that 1.2 T drive to, will only take up a wee bit of space.
Windows can have the rest.
To load it you would just boot that drive.

I already have dual boot on two of my machines, with puppylinux and I also have a dualboot on this PC with WIN7........  Hardly ever use the alternative OS's....

Things have moved on a long way since you downloaded that puppylinux, time to try something new.
