hi my dad worked on the Colpontoon from 1965 till 1967.willem heyns,and was transferred to windhoek when marine Diamond bought the then "suidwes lugdiens"
he was in charge of stores on the barge and told me many stories about the rough seas at that time...would love to hear from people who worked with him who might stilll be living..he sadly passed away july 2002...

Hi Willem,

Firstly sorry about the old man's passing and sadly the wealth of knowledge / history that went with him.

Thanks for sharing the little bit of history though.

A lot of people do not realize the historical influence MDC had on the  establishment of DeBeers Marine and it is mind boggling to think that DeBeers back in the very early days did not believe in Sea Diamonds, took a man like Sammy Collins to show them the way!
