Woolworths in Oranjemund have announced that they will be withdrawing from Oranjemund at the end of the month. Local gossip citing that the cost of having to transport their goods an additional 1800km now that they Alexander Bay border is closed, has become to expensive. In addition declining sales and an uncertain future makes operations unsustainable.....

One fears that the entire world is changing....... perhaps not always for the better.....

When did the border post close?! To visit (from cape town) must we now go vioolsdrif - keetmanshoop etc etc down to O'Mund?! :wow1:

The border was closed around the beginning of March due to the Covid outbreak, but in all honesty with 90km of the North Bank road being tarred, the detour aint to bad, only thing being is there is still currently no traffic allowed between both countries...

Woolworths have reconsidered and are staying for the moment..

I should think they ought to reconsider their decision to abandon OM during the Covid19 crisis.

Does their PR no good at all. Wimps!

Well, well, well... Covid came and went and Woolworths didn't went... They're still here.
All things electrical contain smoke. Making it come out is easy; getting it back in? ... yeah right!!!
