Title: Stonehenge
Post by: Michael Alexander on February 23, 2008, 10:07:30 AM
We always referred to the as the 7 sisters..... According to Sue Hodgson, they were in fact called Stonehenge and were placed there by Hans Kuhnel, The Plumber Foreman in the early 70's.... Does anyone know more about why these rocks were placed here....

Thanks to Aunty Sue... for the topic....

I know them  as 7  sisters  as  well . I think  all  that  were  born  in the  70  s know  them as  7 sisters .
If  you  were  around  before  then  then you  will know  them  as  rocks  and Stonehedge .

Here's a photo of the Rocks. Wasn't the police station at the house just on the corner of the street, just opposite the rocks?

Mike - yes, this is one of the photos I took thate day in November '04 when I secretly entered Oranjemund, walked around town like a Japenese tourist snapping shots at every corner, had lunch, visited the library and the school, photographed the swimming pool, etc, with no one seeing me ...  iknow

Hi Patricia. I'm jr. but I was listening well hihi
Download Picasa from the google homepage. When you start the programm it'll search all pics. Go to the pic you need. At the bottom right you have several buttons. Press "import" and follow the commands..... Or ask snr. again. hihi

I am using Picasa at home, but can't download it to my work PC. So everytime I post a photo from work, it comes out in SUPER format

If you do as in the description above you can take your pics via stick or whatever to work and upload from there. It works. I'm doing it myself.

Maybe you pasted the wrong image. You'll have the original and the exported one. Make sure the exported one was saved properly.

I'm afraid I cant help you on the posting of pics; but that photo looks great Patricia - funny how in my memory those rocks were so much bigger and I always wondered how we climbed them without any 'climbing gear with ropes and harnesses etc - thought wse were right little dare devils, but unfortunately we were just small...........

The size of your photo is massive.... 600kb..... you can resize the pic down to at least 50 kb.....

That should make a difference, somewhere in here I explained to Bev how to do this...

Rhona, I agree with you. Everything looks so much smaller. It really surprised me when I went back to Oranjemund. Check out this photo of the school sport stadium. I remembered this as being humungous with hundreds of supporters from Red/Blue/Green house singing away and cheering on their athletes. Was it really this small?

@ Patricia - that stadium was definitely bigger; sure at any event we had to fight our way for seats - I'm sure half of S.Africa used to come and cheer us on -  there was that many people there..............do you think maybe they cut half the stadium away? Mike; was that stadium cut in half???

Thats the cricket Field, which has always been that size, and still is today, Athletics was held there prior to 1978 as there was nowhere lese to hold it, after that it was held at the Odasa track to the west of town.... The cricket field , I believe is once again used for athletics but on a much smaller scale than ever before...Off course cross country running has always been from here..... yesterday afternoon there was a herd of 30 plus gemsboks grazing on it!

Yup, that's where we used to hold our athletics meetings. I left for boarding school in 1980, so never really knew the Odasa track.
