I was getting bored of the usual braai, chops, steak and wors, so I got the butchery to chop me a square slab of beef rib... I ain't braaied this before, but I believe it can be done... so with a good few beers me and my slab of beef are gonna have a lekker braai 2morrow!
Just thought I would share that with you all.....
braai
Yummmmmmmy Jummmmmmy I have had beef rib on the braai before done properly it is delicious faceinfood
Can I have a taste? pls
Well I just put the cow flesh in the marinade about two hours back.... and I am really looking forward to experiment... for those of you in ZA, I am using LAPPIES braai sous, 500ml and 750 ml bottle.... about 9 bucks for 500ml.... I have tried a lot of different ones, but so far this seems to be the one.... even better than the SPAR branded marinade...
@ Rhona, I'll try and attach a piece to my email for you 2morrow!..... if that fails, I'll post a pic.... :emot19:
And I was worried you might be trying veggies. :emot19:
Start posting the pics now - give us a look at that meat marinading; This side of the world wants to see the step by step progress of that baby cooking - mind you don't cremate it Mike...............slurp!!! I can almost taste it already..........
Ooooh Good idea Jnr...........Skewer up some mushrooms with a lash of sauce and throw them on the braai ........mmm!mmm!
Nope, because it will be messy, I put the slab of beef at the bottom of the container, then I carefully put 2 layers of Pork belly, followed by 5 lamb chops ontop of that, all with a layer of marinade between each level..... I'll take a snap as I unpack the animals 2morrow...I also bought a garlic loaf to put on the fire 2morrow!
it's gonna be a humdinger....
Do you still throw the 'spuds' and the whole onions straight into the hot coals - then sut the spuds in half and pile in cheese..........................what time do you want the irish to come over at???
In tinfoil, Ya! , but not as much as we used to in the old days, Throw butternuts in, thats pretty lekker.... I always make a potato salad for my braai's... the secret is Lemon and Dill spice, gives it that tang...... Slurp!
faceinfood
Do you braai and eat all of this on your own Michael?
I lurve butternut squash...............I'm booking a seat on the first flight over to you...........save a plate for me and my hubby
@ Jnr, Nope, the Girls and usually their friends that are playing here at the time, scoff the sticky pork belly, with the wors... and the drumsticks.... the chops and steak are mine, I eat the evening and then leftovers the following day... whatever I do not consume, I give to the garden boy!
Save some for me..........................sorry Mr. Garden boy; but no leftovers for you my friend
If I'm in a good mood (pissed ) , I sometimes give the garden boy a few beers, but then he does'nt do much work, kind breaks down, I look out the window and his standing there with the hosepipe in his one habd and the beer in the other, like he was on holiday or something....what else do you expect, he supports Man Utd!
bling1
Beers and half a cow...............damn sure he thinks he's on holiday - next thing he'll be doing laps around your pool, round and round and round..............
Hey, I'll have you know that I can do 1007 lengths in my portapool in 1 hour..... Huh! Not to shabby!
:emot19:
Hey! not too shabby indeed - how are you doing in the town pool???
30 every morning, and seeing that I'm off 2morrow, I'll take the girls and do another 30, no breaks, so it will soon be time to up it to 40........ Nice not having a boss!
Oh yeah..........nice being the boss of yourself - Mike just out of curiosity; do you jog or cycle..............or is it just swim?
Swim, Swim... I'm toooooo heavy to sit on my bike or damage my joints by jogging!
hoolahoop1
They say swimming is the best all rounder..............keep going
Just finished my first beer for the day.... the Fire has also been lit..... the time is neigh......
Are you sure you not sitting in a guesthouse in Table View with your laptop trying to confuse us?
Damn. you saw through my plot, I'm in a guest house on Marine Drive..... Aaaaagh! Michele warned me that I cannot mope about this... I had the chance.... I'm sorry, but I'm north of the Orange......

How did the slab of beef 'experiment' turn out?
oops, sorry for the late reply.... It was tough, stoopid cow ate the wrong grass.... I ate about 12% of the tough rubber then dumped it in the bin...now if I had a dog he would have had a feast.....
I also got gout on Sunday night and half of monday......
Should have let the cow live...... but the chops were lekker! faceinfood
Ah well..................we tried and we failed!!! At least you know not to try that experiment for when I pay you a visit...............back to the drawing board...
And you still have not done the Taters !!
I hang my head in shame!
But I'm still game!
Although some things might stay the same...
Said what's his name
:emot19:
About that 'stupid cow' ribs - Mike you should cut them in thin strips, marinade them in the same sort of curry marinade you would use for sosaties, or some other marinade (sweet & sour) & then braai them. I do that with the brisket as well as with the rib itself and it comes out very good.
cl1 You sure the rib you had didn't come from a 'mad cow'?
It's funny that you mention the curry thing, Arthur ( co-manager at spar) and I discuss what we cooked on the weekend, and he did a lamb rib in a curry marinade or a spit for the weekend... marinaded for 3 nights before hand, reckons it was awesome.......
mad cow, I don;t care, she was still too tough, when I do Sandy B's Taters, I'll try your strips also.....
Yep - hang the whole rib from a tripod over a low coal base and braai very slowly - have to hang it at about 45 degrees, to get the heat spread even.
For that you need to braai skilpaadjies for tasters and wash that down with lotsa Windhoek's.
My coals are still to hot to braai.... 5 minutes.....
I went of the Skilpaadtjies about 3 weeks ago, I had a batch that tasted too musch like sheep piss! Serious, I'm now doing the pofadder thing, and that is why I think I had a brief gout attack on Sunday/Monday... but you gotta admit nothing beats a good pofadder!
Thats why you should braai liver skilpaadjies and not kidney skilpaadjies!
A good pofadder is always a bonus. I add grated apple, grated onions, sometimes even some fresh herbs and fresh garlic to the mix when I make them. Nammies!
I never heard of the apple, Does the Aunty from the binneland have a recipe?
Almost time for another experiment..........Don't for get the details and throw in a couple of pics just to make us jelous
Nooooo! It's too late in the evening and way too many beers...... but...wait ... give me 3 minutes
I'm waiting.................
Here we go, remember the camera is as blurred as I am.... laughpoint
Oh my God.................that looks soooooooo delicious; can I have some? Can I? Can I? Can I? pls
I have to ask you - what's with the hole in the fence? Can I presume it's a short cut to your brother?
There's a hole in the fence. Did you run out of wood for the braai.... :emot19:
Yep! Yep! That hole in the fence goes directly to my Brother Paul's mystical garden..... we are aften caught at the "Hole in the Fence " sharing a few beers, the main reason it was created, was to allow free movement for the cousins to play at each others homes.... The planks were not thrown on the fire, but stored, as this would be damaging company property! (Ahem!)
:wow1:
And we all know the Alexander boys arent into distruction...................
:nono1: NEVER!!!
That's the spirit people, That's the spirit! :emot98:
Been so hectic a schedule - just don't get enough time to jump around and read what should be read - try to take notes on the topics I should answer to or make a post in.
Will remember to send you a recipe for that pofadder with the apple in it.
