Yes Mike, I think this is only the beginning of the end.
I have spoken to a couple of people in the past month and you'll be amazed at all the people that are planning to leave in the near future. Garry and I have also decided to leave our little town in this year. We are looking at Windhoek and Swakop/Walvisbay area.
Gee! I hope there's still something left for a Reunion in November....
notfair I also hope there is something and someone left in november i will be travelling a long way. But not to worry i am sure diana and debbie can arrange something in Cape Town
I'm pretty sure that I'll still be here...so don't worry..... as long as the revolution does not start, I see for the first time in the last 17 years the Finance Namibia has allocated more funds for policing and The army than in any other time, even more that was allocated for edumacation and Health..... Gee! I wonder why? Is this a sign that they are expecting a bit of turmoil now that a new political black party has shown up on the scene in namibia?

Well if we look at the big picture, without mentioning any names...... In the last 2 months, the Personnel Manager, The 2 AGM's, The hot shot running the project mapping out the future of Namdeb(CDM) and the MD in WHK have all resigned, or were they pushed? These are prominent positions, is this a purge, or do they know something that we do not.... according to the sources out in the field, doing the actual work, the diamonds are still there...... just a case of a poor workforce and bad direction from on top.... who knows.....?
One things for sure...........the good people on the ground are always the last to know.

It would now appear that there is nothing sinister about the resignations.... One chap resigned due to his kids having to go to Boarding school and the other got a better offer without the effort of having to sukkel for a work permit....

I guess all mining community's have the same problem...
Its called a restlessness when things are not going well .. I have been through it so many times in my companies troubled past ...I find its usually those that do not feel secure within themselves that do a lot of the spreading of the word .. like seeks out like and the huddles are formed and the stories are woven and embroidered more and more ... i have always had the fatalistic view that if that change is thrust upon me then there must be a reason and i will then be forced out of a comfort zone and have to grow some more .. by having that attitude I have been able to get on doing what I do best and thereby not putting my job in danger .. some people make their own destiny by fretting about what is beyond their control instead of concentrating on what is within their control .. the other spinoff is that by not fretting you in all likelyhood get to keep a reasonable state of health as well ..

"Project Sida set the conceptual framework for the future of Namdeb. In this regard I want to thank Percy McCallum and all other colleagues involved for a job well done. Part of the work conducted within Project Sida Ei! Gûs was to redesign the organizational structure fit for purpose as the carats decline. The first carat waterfall was to kick in 2010.
Given the external environment and the internal challenges, it is now time to operationalize strategy. As we know execution is not easy as it involves change, drive and commitment. To add to this challenge we have recently experienced a number of senior resignations and transfers, namely Percy McCallum, Tjaart Willemse and Wulff-Dieter Wieland.
However the business environment presents challenges that are beyond our control. At the same time the mineral resource has been performing at suboptimal levels in some areas. All known easily accessible ore has been mined and for the past two years production in MA1 has been mainly from blocks created by pushing the sea further back. The high stripping ratios, the wet mining conditions and the pumping required make this a high cost operation, and profitable blocks are now scarce.
In order to maximise the return from the remaining deposit in MA1, indeed to ensure that we do not destroy value, we have to down size the operation and especially the support services and overheads, while at the same time improving productivity.
Let us remind ourselves of the journey we have traveled since 2006 and where we want to be in 2010, which is the milestone for achieving the chapter II BHAG.
Today I announce the pending transfer of Chris Sivertsen within the De Beers Group. I confirm that we have identified, in consultation with Group Mining, three very good potential candidates (two from within the Family of Companies) for the General Manager position. Interviews will be conducted within the very near future.
Senior resignations and transfers always cause ripples within the company as they signify change and change is unsettling for all employees.
Today I confirm that our shareholders and our Board continue to have confidence in our ability to manage Namdeb in these challenging times. Our strategy remains solid to ensure that we achieve the full potential in order to maximize shareholder value.
I take this early opportunity to thank Percy, Tjaart, Wulff and Chris for their years of commitment and valuable contribution to Namdeb. In times like these leadership is tested and I urge everyone to be sensitive to employees' reactions to change. There will be a period of shock, regret and even mourning for those who are leaving us.
We must however, despite these emotions, continue to support each other and remain focused on fulfilling our responsibilities as leaders. Responsibilities to all our employees, our Board, and our shareholders.
