LAND SURVEY of all properties in Oranjemund:

starting 5th March 2008

OTMCo has started with the exercise to demarcate the boundaries of all plots in Oranjemund.

This is the first step in the process to enable the registration of the erven in the Deeds Office and facilitate the issuing of title. The surveyors, Mr. Shanyengana and Mr. Dreyer and their survey teams will therefore be visiting all the properties to determine the boundaries of the erven and put some pegs, in the process they may need to trim some trees or cut some bushes. Please assist them by giving them access into the yard. We count on the co-operation of all occupants to make this exercise a success.

I think things are cheap, but only because we will be changing £ in N$ the rate here at the moment is R 15.00 to the pound.
I am going to have a great holiday.
We pay about £4.59 for a pizza. Will have to find one of my menu's.

Bit bizarre that someone needs a GR12 (Matric) to sell biltong ! idontknow
Title: Re: Oranjemund Community Notices!
Post by: Michael Alexander on April 02, 2008, 02:28:30 PM
The inside scoop, is that the previous girls who worked there, were not Gr12's and all of them turned out to have sticky fingers, dishing out biltong to their friends and even eating the product themselves..... So I think JJ hopes that a girl with Gr12 will be more accountable...

The buzz saying in the trade:"You pay peanuts...you get monkey's"

Do you guys remember that Mercer Leeb, who is advertising for Old Mutual here, used to be a policeman in Oranjemund?  Him and some other policemen from Karasburg were involved in a big accident in the mine area somewhere in 1983.

Hi Daleen,
We all used to call Mercer by his nickname "Vissie".  He came to see Garry & myself last year.  What a shock.  He is a big bloke now.  Him and Irene are still married and living just outside Mariental.

World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2008

Theme: TOBACCO-FREE YOUTH

Tobacco is the leading preventable cause of death in the world. It is the only legal consumer product that kills one third to one half of those who use it as intended by its manufacturers, with its victims dying on average 15 years prematurely.

Approximately 1.8 billion young people (aged 10-24) live in our world today with more than 85% found in developing countries. Having survived the vulnerable childhood period, these young people are generally healthy.

However, as the tobacco industry intensifies its efforts to hook new, young and potentially life-long tobacco users, the health of a significant percentage of the world's youth is seriously threatened by their deadly products.

Nicotine is a highly addictive substance and child and adolescent experimentation can easily lead to a lifetime of tobacco dependence.

World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2008
The focus
Globally, most people start smoking before the age of 18, and almost a quarter of these individuals begin using tobacco before the age of 10. The younger children are when they first try smoking, the more likely they are to become regular tobacco users and the less likely they are to quit.

It is clearly proven that exposure to direct and indirect pro-tobacco advertising, together with other marketing strategies used by the tobacco industry, leads to an increase in experimentation by young people and, in turn, to the very real risk of their becoming regular users of tobacco products.

In response to this threat to young people, this year's World No Tobacco Day campaign focuses on the following main message:

One of the most effective ways countries can protect young people from experimenting and becoming regular tobacco users is to ban all forms of direct and indirect tobacco advertising, including promotion of tobacco products and sponsorship, by the tobacco industry, of any events or activities.

World No Tobacco Day, 31 May 2008
A call for action
A TOTAL BAN ON ADVERTISING, PROMOTION AND SPONSORSHIP OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS REDUCES CONSUMPTION
Call to young people:

Let the policy-makers of your country know what you think. Advocate for a total ban on advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products in your country.
Get involved in a campaign to educate your peers on how the tobacco industry uses advertising, promotion and sponsorship to persuade you to smoke or use other forms of tobacco.
Call to the public:

Call on policy-makers to ban advertising, promotion and sponsorship of tobacco products to protect young people.

FOr the 17th July 2008:
-------------------------------

Something happened this evening that unsettled me.  I sincerely hope we will not see more of it in our town.

I was in our bedroom when a stranger knocked on our front door.  He wore a Manchester United Tshirt.  We don't know his name.

When my wife,  who answered the door,  asked what he wanted,  he said that he was seeking help.  When she asked what kind of help,  he answered that he needed money.  He did not state for what purpose he needed the money.  Obviously he was turned away.

I decided to spread this news to everyone I could think of.  We do not need this in Oranjemund and I sincerely hope that our local authorities will stamp out this type of behaviour,  before it gets out of hand.

Perhaps I should stop wearing my Manchester United shirt.  Perhaps the individual thought I would be a soft touch,  based on shared football sentiments.

Thanks for your time.

OLD MUTUAL – MR MERCER LEEB

I will be in Oranjemund as from 23 March 2009,  please contact me for an appointment.

Old Mutual, Namibia's biggest Life Assurer has been around for more than 80 years. During this time we have learnt how to provide valuable service, secure investments and peace of mind for our clients.

Old Mutual will not charge administrative fees on investments of more than N$ 1000 000. (Investment funds included)
You can increase or decrease income at no extra charge.
You can transfer between investments without costs.
You can invest in funds from Sanlam with Old Mutual. (Your investment is at Mutual, but the money is in Sanlam)
Old Mutual's regular bonus fund outperformed all other investors with similar funds. The choice of where to invest is most important as it is the core of the entire investment. You must be able to beat inflation.

The Impact of Inflation -The silent assassin

R100 spending power at retirement = R 21 spending power in 30 years time (assumes income escalation is 5% less than inflation)

R100 spending power at retirement = R 54 spending power in 30 years time (assumes income escalation is 2% less than inflation)

Rule 1: Effect of not having enough money in retirement is compounded by inflation.

Rule 2: Even if a level guaranteed annuity does provide enough income to cover expenses, you do not have enough capital to retire .

I can be contact for professional advice on:
