I'd like to dedicate these pics to those photographers out there keeping us informed on "pets", "homes", "OM" "reunions".... Whatever. I'm very greatfull for what you guys do.
Heidelberg is one of the most well known German town to tourists. So here we go...
This was early in the morning. So the light wasn't to good.
1.) On your way to the castle you'll find several of these buildings.
2.) Seeing over the rooftops.
3.) Over the rooftops looking in direction Rhine. (about 15-20km from here)
Beautiful pics. Start planning a reunion for us in Germany!
Sounds good Florrie. But first I'll have to do some more advertising. ;)
1.) One of the villas on the way to the castle.
2.) These guys see down to the oldtown looking over the castle.
3.) This way to the castle.
4.) A small glimps of the park...
My camera is a simple sony digital. No special zoom. So the pics aren't the best. I'm just trying to give an impression of HD. The pics were taken in the early mornig so that the light was not at an optimum.
I wanted to take pics of the castle from the oldtown, but the sun was coming up over the hill. I'll get some more pics, as soon as I get to HD at another time of day.
But here come those I've already made.
The castle was almost destroyed when at war with the frensh a couple of hundred years ago. Part of it will stay as a ruin. Some parts have been restored. i didn't have enough time to go inside to show the restored parts, but will do some day. Give me some time.
1.) North-west tower. (ruin)
2.) South-east tower. (ruin)
3.) I think this is the tower over the south entrance. Presumeably the main entrance.
1.) North-east tower /(ruin) with the villa on the north side of the Neckar (river flowing into the Rhine)
2.) The castle taken from south-east.
3.) Taken through the trees.
1.) The "Heilig-Geist-Kirche" seen from the castle.
2.) Looking in the direction of the Rhine. You can see a suburb of HD. the buildings are more "modern". Most of them you see here are part of the "Universaty Hospitals" HD is famous for.
3.) One of the many uneversaty builds in town. " Neue Uni"
4.) The entrance: "Dem lebendigem Geist" This means something like: " Dedicated to a living/lively spirit"
Standing on a crossing in a smal road in the oldtown I took 3 pics in all directions. This road is just called "Ploeck". For the Germans on the forum "Plöck". (The "ö" won't show.)
Most of these buildings were built more than 100 years ago. You'll find plaques on mny of them remembering famous German Scientist, phlosophers, Doctors, authers.... that had spent time in HD.
1.) Typical tourist sceneray. Excited asiens running through the town with their cameras. They often check out several towns in one day so there's no time for them to enjoy the athmosphere here.
2.) Here you drink your beer in the brewery. Very popular in Germany. The pic was taken through the window. Pub was still closed.
3.) This pic is for the Wilson. I offered you a pub-crawl instead of bitch-slapping. This road (Untere Strasse) would be our destination. Full of great pubs and really crowded in summer.
4.) One of the pubs is called "The golliwog pub". ??? politically correct??? idontknow ;)
1.) The castle seen from the oldtown. The building to the right is the universaty library.
2.) The castle
3.) The library again. (one of very many)
Something I like in particular about this town is, you'll see the forest on hills around town where ever you are in the oldtown.
1.) Just some lane... Plenty of pubs and shops preferably frequented by students.
2.) This tower is on top of the "Heiligen Berg". A sacred place even since the celts lived here. Unfortunatly the nazis used this for their propaganda too. This hill may be a topic on itssellf. Some day...
3.) The universaty again with forest in the backround.
1.) Our first president after WW1 was born here. Just next to the "pub-crawl road" Wonder if he went boosing there too.
2.) One of the oldest hotels in town.
3.) Municapality
4.) Another old building
Signs galore!
4.) This is a so called "Student pub". No student would go there nowadays. It's a place you'd find loads of tourists that make believe....
It's imposible taking a pic of a church in a whole. The buildings are all to close to each other...
Believe it or not, but these guys sell SWEETS!!! Very populare shop. Great fun shopping here. The owner reminds me of Riffraff in Rocky Hooror Show.
If you buy something here, you have to "gamble" with dices with the owner before you pay. You almost always win and get something addicionaly.
1.) One of the buildings of "Heidelberger Druckmashinen". World famous printing mashines.
2,) Some kind of print academy.
3.) Showing the more modern side of HD
4.) Art across the road from the station.
1.) The HD main-station
2.) Park and ride. Very populare here.
Jnr, that looks absolutely amazing............when the O'mund tour hits Germany; then I am definietlt there
:auguri1: beautiful grab BierSuip discodance
1.) Alte Bruecke. HDs oldest bridge.
2.) Tower of the old bridge.
3.) Close up
4.) Ape gaurding the bridge.
Good report of HD
Talk to me on how to upload that to AOL and or Photobucket.
With Photobucket you can show the pics in original size here, i do that with Pics that have nothing to do with O-mund.
I dug out some old pics from 3 Plant in black and white, will post them soon.
AOL sounds good. Done that several times. So you think I should paste the link on the board?

This is called "Heidelberger Herbst". Food, drink, music... God fun.
1, Sweets with "Lebkuchen"...
2. Is this a German restaurant?
3. Movies you'll see anywhere in the world...
4. This guy doesnÄ't lok German, he smells oriental, but speaks perfect German. ???
Hey son
Picture # 4, is that you ?????
The guy in number 4 with the beard looks identical to a German gentleman in one of the old age homes here. His name is Peter Stelzmann, and his son is Grisha. Both patients of mine - love them to bits, the Dad is extremely intelligent and has a great sense of humor.
Just been going through this one again .. overall , beautiful pics Jnr ...
