Mine was that love story with the priest set in Australia I think it was. Bugging me can't get to the name now.    At the moment a very good South African series called Known Gods.

Hardly ever watch TV  -

does Super Sport channel count for a series?     quickdop

Used to follow I'll take Manhattan, but that was on about 15 years ago, or even more.  Read the book afterwards.
Then there was also the Thorn Birds  (ain't that the one with the priest in Australia?)

Nowadays I only sometimes watch Animal Planet and C & I  and History channel and the different sport channels, but mostly only on weekends.  I never even switch the TV on - mostly listen to the radio or cd's.

Mine was definately Magnum ... God was I in love with Tom  daman. He's the only celebrity I ever sent a fan mail to. And I got an autographed photo that still lies in my stuff up in my parents' attic. That little wink he did at the beginning of each episode would make my ovaries go wild. It was like he was doing it just for me ...! Have to admit, that even now, when I watch those Magnum episodes, that is still my favorite part. He loves me, oh yes he does  :36_4_8:

Ah Ha......except for 60km or miles (don't know what is used there),somewhere there in Germany where they've introduced a trial 120 limit. Although they said they didn't think it would work out. Heard it on the news last week.(AND I'm down here in South Africa)     e180

The cops weren't there coz it was one of those fixed radars (that has never worked in the past, so why today?). I'm very tempted to go there tonight and through a brick at it. At least I can speed past there tomorrow morning without getting flashed again.
As for flashing the finger, that's something that can end you in jail in this place. I did it when I first arrived in this country and was fortunate enough that the cop was in a particular good mood that day and that he dealt with my ex-husband rather than me. My ex-husband tried to convince him that it wasn't a finger that I had flashed but that I had just raised my hand ... If I had been the one trying to explain my gesture to the copy, I would have told him why I did it in the first place and told him that it was justified. Don't think that would have gone down very well.

I must admit I was quite hooked on Dallas and Dynasty in the 80's, why I don't know. Then came "Hotel" on TV4 (remember TV4? Etv nowdays) during my teens, and it changed all that. Connie Selleca... just flippin gorgeous!! She really knew how to push my testosterone filled buttons.   dawoman        There was another series on TV4 at that time which wasn't half bad - Matt Houston.

Nowdays it's anything on Discovery, History or National Geographic channel.

There is no speedlimit, unless there are signs saying so. Depends on where the Autobahn is. VClose to a town, old bumpy road, workers ect.

Thank you Cherry..if you look real close you can see the "smile lines" Lucky it's a small pic.    Now I'm being very vague here but there was a serial on T.V. around 1979,also some love story thing . Very "Heathcliffy" hunk with ponytail and his lady love was some peasant lived in the country side. There were soldiers, wore those Napolian type hats, thinking about it the hunk guy could of been a slave(a white slave). Some English war I think.    Any oldies out there remember.......Cherry... :sorriso2:

I guess in our house it would have to be a toss up between the Super 14, Currie Cup and then of course every four years the World Cup comes along!

Or we could go for Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack & Cody or Kusco!

Hannah Montana - is she anything like Dora the Explorer?
Title: Re: My favourite tv Series of all time and now....
Post by: Michele Alexander (Voden) on April 17, 2008, 04:37:15 PM
Apparently not - I've just had to check with the peanut gallery. Hannah Montana is actually Miley Cyrus - Billy Cyrus daughter. The show is all about her, no-one except her best friend knows that she is actually Hannah Montana - a famous teenage singer. Billy Cyrus is also in the show, acting as her father and Dolly Parton has also been on a couple of times acting as her aunt!

My neighbour is calling so gotta run!

Peanut gallery = Shannon and Cameron, our daughters. (When they're good and do well at school they are my children - when they are naughty they are Mike's children!)

Diana, I recall that series. I believe it was set in Ireland during the Brittish invasion. I cant recall the name though, it definately had something in the title though about wind. I'll see what Google can come up with and get back to you.

Thanks Sandy. After reading Diane's post I could picture the series in my mind, but went through 2 days of mental torment trying to remember the name.

Here's some more info from www.nostalgiacentral.com

Against The Wind told the tale of Mary Mulvane, a young girl from Ireland who is tried for her involvement in rebellious activities against the British and sentenced to transportation to the penal colony of New South Wales. Following a terrible six month voyage across two oceans, she falls in love with another convict, Jonathan Garrett (played by 70s pop star, Jon English). The couple survive much injustice and eventually marry and become free and prosperous settlers.

thnx   and it took two guys to remember the name.     " Against The Wind " it is. Never missed an episode, I remember travelling from Ficksburg to O'mund one time and making Stephen stay over in Upington so I could watch it. My mostest favourite of all time next to "Thorn Birds". For years couldn't remember the name and am surprised that you guys got it from my vague discription.

LOL!  To answer the question - there was an Afrikaans series that I really liked - think it was called Die Vlaktes Duskand Van Hebron with Ian Roberts or something of that ilk.  Now - probably Dexter - really slick.

Isn't it strange how the SABC local programmes improved drastically during the years when they were banned from buying overseas programmes.
