Can't you two even leave the rugby out of this forum! Reminds me of our wedding reception!
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Paul Alexander on July 31, 2007, 10:50:44 AM
You had a wedding reception???? I remember the TV's being on at the bar... oh and there may have been beers...

Mike, create a new forum call "At the Fence"  and all who want to discuss rugby over a couple of beers can join that one!!!

Then create one for Michele called "Who's that shouting my name while gardening, don't freak me out!!!!" dedicated to all those females married to Cheetahs fans stuck in the 80's.....

Hey Darryl, I don't think Mike even knows we got married! Wonder if he realises he has two kids.

Did you see your picture - I posted it under celebration times.

Hey Paul, Mike's real upset you won't be joining him for his braai on Saturday - you know he's not allowed to braai very often!!!!
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Paul Alexander on August 02, 2007, 12:52:23 PM
Sad it is, but I'm off to WHK on sunday so I've opted for some quality famiy time (i.e.: braaiing and getting pissed on my side of the fence!!!!) Wanna see if I can get through a second weekend without a single beer
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!

Will you be substituting with wine again? I know someone who's got some Jagermeister in his freezer and was talking about Irish coffee today! Besides, if your dad can actually find his way to our house you will be spending time with your family!

Your house also looks and sounds a lot better from this side of the fence - believe me!
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Paul Alexander on August 03, 2007, 09:27:58 AM
Ha ha, quite right, I've already got 2 bottles of Nedeburg Baronne in the pantry... The problem is old Cheetah boy and his 'boys only parties', its about time you showed him who's really  the boss in that house !!!
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Michele Alexander (Voden) on August 03, 2007, 09:30:51 AM
Don't you know the boys only parties are so I can escape the house whilst the rugby is on! If there where wives involved I would be obliged to stay at home and listen to Mike having a one-sided argument with the ref and all the players!

By the way, you know you can never tell whether Mike is calling for Paul or Wall, thought we should call you Wilson from now on!

Apparently beer is ruining his figure... and wine is quite slimming. And it goes well with a 2kg rump steak.

Okay Paul - it is now safe to return home, both of you should be pleased with your teams - what with Stormers and the Cheetah's winning their games.

For the rest of you who can't hear or see Mike, he is dressed in orange from head to toe and telling everyone in hearing distance how himself and Werner are off to Bloemfontein (the Cheetah's homeground) for the next match!

Oh but to have a nice quiet Saturday afternoon!

Thank Heavens the Cheetahs won as our weekly visit to SPAR tomorrow should be a good one ~ not only a smiling and helpful retail manager but the Sunday papers will also be put out on Sunday!!  (When the Cheetahs lose we only see them on the following Wednesday!).  What more could a WeePee supporter ask for?

(Mike - Please note that me and my mates have refrained from gatecrashing the rugby braais at your house because we respect Michele, your kids, brother, domestic, business partners and parents-in-law so much...unlike your rating of my place - and guests and wife.  We've also heard that your buy your meat at SPAR which has diminished some of the attraction...  When are you actually going to invite us over as you owe many of us mega hospitality - we'll supply the meat????)
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Michele Alexander (Voden) on August 04, 2007, 08:23:41 PM
Pete, so sorry to have to tell you that neither Mike nor myself will be working at Spar tomorrow and you will have to deal with Arthur "Blue Bull" Conry - luckily his team also won their game so you should still receive friendly and helpful service. Can't guarantee about the papers though!

SPAR - GOOD FOR YOU!!!!!!

Hate to have to tell you but that bombastic husband of mine and his german sidekick are at this moment on the way to your house (that is if they don't gatecrash Gary's farewell at the bowling club first)

Man..... my fellow Oranjemunders.... for 17 years I have supported the Free State Cheetahs... and for 14 years it was shallow pickings...... tonight we beat the Blue bulls, ..... we have now beaten all of the other  teams in the CC..... and we are halfway through the season......  I waited, and now our time is here... some say that ... yes it's a world cup year... we are missing "our: best players".... Yes , I agree, but bear one thing in mind,,,,, every year we, the Freestate have lost a lot of players to all the bigger unions..... we have a world cup every year in the Freestate..... our time has arrived ... now  we are on par.... and as they say in Afrikaans... " Kry vir jou!"......

GO Oranjemund
Go The Freestate!

Mike ~ Anybody would have thought the Cheetahs had lost going by your heartrending explanation (in Warren's kitchen late last night) of how it is that you're a Free State fan!  It definitely drove us to another round of Irish coffees, pumpelmussen and beer!!  In fact, you seemed so touched by your own story that you even sent yourself home!!
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Michael Alexander on August 12, 2007, 04:03:29 PM
Pete, and you thought I went home... nobody offered me an Irish coffee so I went to the Snooker and Darts!

Post by: Pete (RIP) on August 12, 2007, 06:22:41 PM
Aaaahhhh...I've figured it out - there obviously weren't enough Blue Bulls at the braai so you took yourself off to their stronghold!!  Surely it was closed by the time you got there - they never stay open for long if the Bulls lose!
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Warren Weidemann on August 13, 2007, 07:18:57 AM
Hey Mike, you left your whiskey behind... don't worry we'll make sure it is well looked after. I agree with Pete, the story you told us in the kitchen had me all choked up and bleary eyed - it was beautiful man.

ps. I offered you Irish coffees three times but you muttered something about blerrie souties and left in a blaze of orange.

I LEFT WHISKEY  BEHIND? I must have been lekker dronk to do that...... I felt that after I had poured my guts out about how Great my rugby team is, I had no further conversation to share with you guys, seeing that Pete and my father in law were "hogging" the party, do I went to a quiet pub, to tell those patrons the same things I had just told you guys, I only found 4 pubs open that night....

:-[

The pubs that were closed probably saw you coming in a blaze of orange and decided to close early! At least you got to chew someone else's ear off about your wonderful rugby team! I thought my dad had a curfew whilst my mom was away! What time did he get home I wonder!

I can't show it to you now, because it's been confiscated. Denise said I could get it back if I behaved myself.

Warren, Warren, Warren - you really need to get hold of THE MANUAL, ask Paul if you can take a look at his, mind you he's probably too scared to lend it out as I'm sure he is constantly studying it, I think Mike has memorised it though - ask him!

At least Paul keeps me company when I'm shifting sand in the garden - that is after he's scared the shit out of me with his sudden appearances at the fence!

Mike, I'm going to be heading home now so I hope you've done all those domesticky things you promised you would - oops sorry should this have been a pm?

What a lucky escape for the only Super 14 side playing in the Currie Cup, the Cheetahs!  Where's Mike?  Terribly quiet.  Just imagine what imagine what an impact on the game a neutral ref and match officials would have had.

Must say, for my part, that I was very happy with Province.  To come away with a bonus point from Fortress Ellis is commendable.  Glad they're not showing too much before the final.  Still, it is very quiet without the glowing faces of Cheetah supporters peering over the fence, vigorously waving their flags (usually upside down, too!).
Title: Re: The Currie Cup Teams!
Post by: Michael Alexander on August 19, 2007, 07:03:39 AM
Pete, you have to understand that we were missing 3 of our normal players and 3 more of our even better key players to the WC, and the ref was biased, and the field was a pigsty, and the altitude, and the warm weather, and plane ride down, and the time zone thingy, and 3 of the players were playing with pink eye, and  dammit, I'm starting to sound like a Bulls supporter  ;D , nevertheless the main reason why they almost lost, which they did'nt......, was because their biggest Namibian supporter, decided to stay sober and not to braai this Saturday, and thus neglected to erect his weekly orange shrine in his lounge, thus upsetting the karma.... and one could see the players felt this.... I have learned my lesson and from henceforth will continue to erect my orange shrine, cheetah ashtray and all( even though I don't smoke), for the next 8 weeks.....

Those flags will reappear.... soon....

;)

you know what the oddest part of the cheetah's supporters: the only time the cheetahs wear orange is when they are playing a team that also is mainly white, and yet all the supporters look like fruit with legs

hi michele
so far its not to bad had plenty of interest , we officially opened our doors to guests on the 13 and we have had three guest taking up a total of 8 days , there were meant to be more but somehow the communication part let us down. dont know what happened , then there was a total misunderstanding between a client and a travel agency and the one group of people got booked into my place and actually wanted to be in another suburb so we lost that. but i must say we have been surprised as we werent expecting anyone until september.

Don't feel too bad, Mike ~ your premonitions this morning were spot on.  So tell us, how is your braai going?  No photographs yet?  I won't even bother rubbing it in ~ just looking forward to seeing your team in the semis so we can make it a double!!  If I had the energy I'd rush down to your house and gatecrash but it's too close to the kick-off of the Namibia game...

Pete, thanks for your kind words.... the Gout was playing up this week, so I did the brave thing and did'nt have a braai or drink beer this weekend, perhaps a good thing as I would have thrown a beer bottle through my TV......

I'm glad out of all the teams in the CC, it was province that brought us down.... we needed to return to reality... as we were in a downward spiral for the last 3 weeks, our heads being bigger than our game...Hopefully my boys woke up.......

Good luck.....

Yawn! I do not feel like repeating the logic behind saturday capitulation, so I have just copied and pasted the same reply I gave to all the rugger folks on Sunday in the store and which I posted over on the cheetah site...

"My fellow Orange Supporters..... Lets not keep complaining about the ref..... if our team is as good as we say, then they should have risen above any bad ref.....

If you followed our progress over the last 6 weeks, you will have noticed that as each game was played, our team's performance started to drop, with three of those games  just winning by our teeth. The ref was not bad in all those games. The following was observed.

1) We no longer have that added pressure on our shoulders of having to focus on an unbeaten record, this could have caused problems in the semi's
2) Nakka and Helgard did not appear to be that upset during and after the game, in fact they both sat quietly as if they were not even there..normally Helgard would be like a spring , jumping up and down all over the place...
3) Brenden and Rassie are the two people in the country that know that Freestate side like the back of their hands and now they are helping wp.
4) The door has been opened for Wp to come back into the semi's...we would rather play against the weeepeee in Bloem, than Lions or Bulls.
5) Any ego trip our boys might have been on as unbeatables, will now be wiped off and they have now been brought back to earth...with a bang....

So fear not, this loss was on the cards and only good will come of it!"

Mmmmmh!
