Title: The Log Cabin
Post by: Nicky Hodge on July 26, 2007, 02:18:18 PM
Can anyone out there remember the Log Cabin, and some of the parties that were held there? I recall that they used to really go "OFF". I think it was situated off the beach road somewhere. Was this a company initiative, or was it a private concern? Does it still exist?

Nicky, just give me a few days and I'll take photo of the log cabin for you, it's being run as the off road club now and doing very well, lotsa drinking and singing. I think I posted more info about it in another post on the forum.

if those log cabin walls could talk................remember the army parties we used to have - farewells each year for the guys that had been called up to do their 2 years............somebody in another post, either mike or paul, mentioned they can't drink coco rico or vincoco to this day.....likewise, got smashed with my boet on vincoco at one of those army parties and to this day cannot even stand the smell of coconut based suntan lotion.

Coco Rico ........ Haven't touched the stuff since I was a teenager, but hell that taste seems to linger .... I swear I can taste it now!! The stuff of memories. The last occasion was at boarding school.
Leigh McBride and I saved up our tuck shop money for a few weeks, as an " Off Weekend " was approaching  and bought a bottle of Coco's. I can recall us sitting in a park in Plumstead on a Friday evening, downing the stuff on a park bench in the rain. This had been our first night out of " jail " for a while, and we were not wasting any time. Needless to say, we were totally wasted in no time, and spent the rest of the night trying to find our way back to Leigh's aunties house. She was not impressed as I remember.

what awesome memories some people have. Was Coco rico very cheap? I think tha we all tried too much of it back inthe 80's. I remember going to the log cabin parties but having to tell my parents that I was going elsewhere. my mother had heard too many stories of what went on there.

I remember it being used for the off road scrambler club (John Smith et al) in the early 80's.

Think the log cabin was originally built by and for the Boy Scouts for their camping weekends. I can vaguely remember some of those parties down there, eish! but it was and maybe still is a good venue for a jol, far enough away from town so that noise etc ain't a hassle 'cept for the problem of getting home afterwards.
