For those of you overseas, the east weather has left us a few days back and now it's pissing down with rain, glad it's my working weekend!

Rain .. You need it .. enjoy ... we now had storms in CT ... got home yesterday afternoon .. found Stagshorn fern ( huge one ) blown off its hook toppled itself and how many ohter plants into the fish pond .. ladder blown over .. branches ripped off trees on way home .. flooding of roads etc .. I recall when I was about 5 or 6 we had a huge storm the one time ... at that stage we kept doves and the usual menagerie of animals ... I had to go out in this raging storm at night and tie canvas in front of the dove cages , unusal for that part of the world but if it did do the storm thing it did it good and proper ...
It;s now the evening and it's fairly cool, the clouds have gone and the air is crisp, typical Oranjemund rains the whole afternoon, buckets of that liquid stuff... and now...... just cold....

Cape Town is just as windy as Oranjemund at present and has been blowing for the last 4 days at +/- 40 kmph tempreture 28 degrees.
One thing when the South Easter blows we know summer is here and the Cape Doctor is blowing all the smog out to sea.
They say that Cape Town is like a baby boobs - If it is not wet ( :natale3:) it is windy ( swim).
If you live near the beach you have to take the wind. :culo1:

The " vaallie" fall down to durbs start soon and for those of you who dont know last year there was a point when they were clocked around three thousand cars per hour entering durban , anyway if this weather we experiencing in durbs continues they aint gonna be very happy...it rains just about everyday . last week we had a small tropical storm where trees were up rooted cars sliding around and boats were been thrown around in the harbour.
This afternoon, the 21st of December, it's typical, humid weather in Omund, the misty clouds are coming over, but it is sticky and hot........ about 23 degrees, no wind to talk of...... and best of all, it's perfect beer drinking weather.....

BUT, in no ways would I say that, I'm just trying to prempt some other smart arse from saying the same.
The years we had in Oranjemund we basically did the same over Xmas and New Year.
Our "leave" normally consisted of taking the kids back to school towards the end of Jan and if we were lucky, we could afford to have a few days in luxury at a half star guest house.
In fact even here in Cape Town, I'm hoping that with the exception of one or two things, I can park the car and get pleasurably plonked, stuff myself with food, and just park off for the next 10 days.

You guys have gotta see todays mist..... when we got up at 06h00 the sky was clear, about half an hour, the mist came in, in a rolling fashion...like smoke...... thick soupy stuff..... bed and video weather..... how many of you remember in your teenager years squatting the whole night at a friends house watching movies the whole night.....

I laugh in awe how I know plug a flashdrive into my DVD player and watch the movie from the flash, no moving parts.... compared to a VHS video cassette... and don't even start on Betamax!

Who remembers the thick mist of Oranjemund?
This morning I could barely see in front of me when taking the girls to school, I said to them it felt like I was driving without my contacts! Luckily Cameron is a very sharp sighted co-pilot and guided us through the soup!
For those only waking up now they would never believe we had such thick mist as it is a beautiful clear day outside now!

I remember the mist - used to love it. But now that I'm older and driving in it - it's not so fun. It doesn't scare me or anything it's just that it turns other drivers on the roads into idiots. Driving too fast on country roads when they can't see anything , makes me angry

So this is how sobored I am that I have to resort to talking about the weather!
It rained on and off the whole day today - poor Shadow is very frustrated because we didn't go for our walk - I really didn't feel like walking through all of those puddles!
It sounds really bad in the Western Cape, with a couple of towns being shut off from the rest of the cape I believe. When we drove back from Springbok on Friday the Holgat river bed was dry and yesterday when my folks drove back they saw so much water on the way up but still the Holgat river bed was dry.
I got a mail from a friend in Vredendal with photo's attatched. Water everywhere!
Are those lot down in CT not all sitting on their roofs by now - could be according to all the photo's we saw of the floods. (Thanks for that, Bertie).
You lot in OM should also start planting winter crob next to the river, seeing that the rain keeps coming down endlessly. Specially barley for the horses. Michelle, you can make good money from the riding club if you sell to them.
Yolanda and Wilkie Pote have taken over the land next to the river for their agricultural project. They live in the old stablemasters house down by the bridge. It was quite impressive to see how good their crops are looking when we drove past on Friday! They have also just put up 4 tunnels down there. They've got a couple in town as well and grow cucumbers and tomatoes in them.
Here's the weather 4 tomorrow.... I wonder if it will be fine to braai....rugby braai and sunny skies....

Locals know this already...everyone is talkng about the wind, the last two days.,..... the wind in Omund has been pumping...... big way....... cold and southerly with sand all over the place.... Aus, as some of you might know, has bloody hot weather over summer. The mainland has had 40-45 C for the past 7-10 days. Adelaide hit an all-time high of close to 44 C last week. Today Melbourne has 44, Canberra has 40 C, Adelaide 41 C. Perth had 40+ last week but now its a (relatively) cool 28 C.
Thank God I'm in Hobart where its only 27 C. We had a high of 32 C last week. The entire mainland is roasting and there are huge bushfires everywhere, especially in the southern states. Evidently the temperatures are an average of 4-5 degrees warmer than last year, with less rainfall. Even Tasmania which is normally quite wet has had about 20% less rain. All the mainland states have had water restrictions for the past year or two.
And there are floods in northern Queensland!!!!!!! Figure that out.

O-mund has the mildest weather of all, disregarding the east wind days, you´re lucky people there
I actually enjoy the east wind, especially when it creeps up during a still, cloudless night.... My lips tend to get dry 2-3 days before the east wind arrives, this gives me a warning to get my braaimeat ready, coz nothing beats braai on an east wind evening (once the wind dies down)
In some parts of town, we have those whispering pines..... it's an amazing calming sound....
It is 11h40 in Oranjemund and the current temp is at 32.4 degrees and climbing, I have informed my better half, and I will not take nO for an answer, I will be lighting the fire for supper..... Bork belly and wors.....

The snow is beautiful when it arrives but after the cars and trucks have been over it its a right mess! lol Think like any weather, its ok in small quantities but after, lets say a month its becomes a bit much! (my opionion)

We can do with some rain in the Cape. All that it's raining is ash! With all the fires in the area the sky is an eerie greyish yellow and it looks like it's snowing with a fine mist of ash covering the cars.

Here in Aus there are huge fires burning in the southern states on the mainland and hundreds of people killed and something like a thousand houses burnt. The eucalypus trees burn like hell and create fire storms that must be seen to be believed. They get these insane hot northerlies that blow at gale force.
Just a few weeks back there was the highest temperatures ever recorded north of Melbourne: 50.7 C!!!!!! It beat the record just set the week before which was 46 C.
You dont need to light a braai - just put the wors out in the sun!
Thank goodness it doesnt get like that down here in Tasmania which only reaches about 30 C in Hobart.

I came home in a foul mood ... back at work catching up .. and yes felt as though I was walking through mud ... then discovered that the evaporative water cooling system was turned off as well raising discomfort levels on shop floor ... found out it has not been subject to regular maintenance cos when i raised cain the handyman switched it on and the water was rotten and just stank and 90 % of the spray nozzles were blocked .. I shal rip my mainteneance colleagues head off when he gets back from leave .... he supposed to ensure regular cleaning of nozzles and flushing of system ... image14

Well the first storm of the winter has arrived in Omund..... no rain yet, the wind is swirling a gale in from the North West.... there is a mixture of sand and dust billowing down the street, one cannot see the desert at the end of seventh ave.... I know that the Off road club is doing a dune ride today and I know a friend is hosting a spit braai in his garden today.....
