For the previous 3 years at Highclere castle near here, Eric has supported the Countryside Alliance and played a gig there with Brian Ferry and various other rockers including Mike & The Mechanics, Pink Floyd, Procul Harum, Steve Harley etc etc. At each of the concerts, Whoever is on stage supports the next band or individual .
Here is Eric. As the crowd who attend the gig (includes a picnic) in the castle grounds only numbers no more than 2000 people, you get really close to these rockers.
Here is Eric at the last Highclere Castle gig. Have seen him at The Albert Hall a couple of times too. I think he has a future as a guitarist......!!!!
Eric is one of the best, no doubt!
George - you are so right. And it is so nice to see him come on, do his stuff then remain onstage at the back playing his guitar as support for the oncoming acts. In all he was onstage for 4 hours. Mike Rutherford of Genesis and Mike and the Mechanics was onstage from the start!
All these guys were superb. Bryan Ferry was the only one to do his bit and not stay on as support. Selfish git!
@Mike,
Can this forum accept videos in the posts?
@ Robert, no... I'm afraid not... this version is about 3 upgrades behind the latest version, I have been mulling it over on when to do an upgrade.... just don't want to break anything ...
Puuuk puk puk puk puuuuk puk puk....
laughpoint
Robert, you can post videos under 2mb as an attachment. The limit says 3.5mb per post, but over 2mb it gives an error message.
Carl
Don't move. Put away the keyboard.
Did you notice that you are on 777 posts. No?
Good - leave it like that 'cos 777 is a lucky number.
Gee I wasnt aware of that Robert. Too late now, I've gone up to 779...lol What bothers me more though is the time I've been on the forum. 4 days 2hours and 43 mins. Now thats addiction.
777 was my post office box number while in O'mund...............how lucky am I?
My current box number is 12345. Hasn't brought me any luck though, only envious comments every now and then...lol

@ Pam - yes I was lucky enough to see LZ before they split up and before Bonham died.
Was not lucky in the draw to get a ticket to the reunion gig though.
Have you ever seen Peter Gabriel Robert?
I know. Not as heavy as LZ, but great show.
George,
No. Pete Gabriel's music and me have never clicked. The only thing he did that got my foot tapping was Sledgehammer.
Who remembers the LM Radio jingle?
Below is the jingle in mp3 format
While I was at Affenrucken, I bought myself a real powerful radio - around 1969. It was a Grunding that I bought in Windhoek and cost me about R150 at the time - a fortune, but I could pick up all the stations as there was no reception where we were.
I used to listen to LM radio, especially at night when the reception was good. You can get all the jingle at www.lmradio.org/lm_jingles.htm. They should bring back memories.
I remember that we too had a Grundig, Had a green valve that heated up before the radio would come on. When did LM radio stop broadcasting to Oranjemund?

They never did. Only thing was the strength of the signal. LM Radio stopped broadcasting from LM studios way back. I remember one day when I lived in Windhoek that I picked up Radio 5. I called in and told Kevin Savage that I was receiving the signal (not too strong) and he was bowled over about it! He doid not think the signal would reach Namibia. Duh!
LM Radio in its time was a clear signal . We used to listen in on Sunday nights to the David Davies hit parade. This show was essential listening for youn people then. SABC did not consider it moral to broadcast rock n roll!!!!!!!! S
So this is how LM became the premier station for youth.
I presume LM Radio was English, not Portuguese?

It started out as the LM Portuguese Radio Club I think then after the war a couple of English ex army entertainment corp guys got involved. Go see the site www.lmradio.org/lm_jingles.htm (http://www.lmradio.org/lm_jingles.htm) and read up on the very interesting history. I have corresponded with Chris and he asks as many of us who remember LM Radio to visit the site
I remember Springbok radio from OM. Sitting in front of the radio with fingers poised on the record button during David Gresham's top 20 show. He knew off course that everybody was taping his show, so he would yap and yap till halfway into the song.
Yep! We all did that, Carl.
Just for interest sake, does anybody know what David Gresham did after Springbok radio? No jnr, you may not use Google!
I did learn swimming while wearing googles. I remember well. You can see tha in the topic Holidays at Ai-Ais. Really...
@ Carl - Gruesome Gresh went on to open Gresham records and the last I saw of him he was working at Sony but since retired or who knows since.
Hi Cherry, u'r quite right. He founded his own record label in the states and went from strength to strength. Depeche Mode signed with his label, David Gresham Records in the mid 80's and o'l Gruesome himself went on to produce their "Black Celebration" record. Bet u never knew that Mike A. numberone
Nowadays he's still very much involved in the music industry, and was in SA a few months ago on business.
Nope Carl...that is indeed interesting....
