That is absolutely right

From 2007 November on the prices went up for bungalows by 300 %

Still the onrush by Europe visitors continues.....thy pay anything now that Kenia and Zim drop out from visitors

For Nam people, absolutly impossible to afford that, for me too. I see it that way, some cranks in Gvnmt earn with that !!!!!

I used to come every few years, thats over now.....

Empty Camping, how come many forum members in our forum in europe complain about not getting a booking, i tell you why, they offices are incapable of handling that.

That was already the case before independence.....i know, went through that often enough.

To me also unbearable the differences in fees for local residents to us:  ie Aquarium Swakop

Local: 20 Nam $ Europe Visitors 60 Nam $

Now for those of you that visit europe, imagine we do the same here, you pay 3 times what we pay !!!!

It reminds me very much of communist countries taht dit the same here. One of zhe reasons why i never travvelled there.

Same counts for pensioners rebates, only apllies to local residents, in Europe unbeleivable........

Experinced that on table mountain, sorry only local residents....... thumper

Thats my Rant for the day  madashell

It's easy jnr, If you guys come down here on holiday your holiday budget is magically multiplied by 12.43, however if we want to come spend a weekend on the Theresienwiese our budget is magically divided by 12.43...lol

Do the math: 1x Beer @ 7.5 euro = R93 for just 1 friggin beer!!!  :emot78:

I've noticed the double standards applied at quite a few tourist attractions in SA. In one situation though, the foreign tourist applied some basic haggling skills and paid "local" prices. It all depends on how far u'r willing to go to stop this injustice.

Unfortunately though, we can't haggle our local currency and have to think twice before attempting an European vacation. Anybody know the correct combination of 6 numbers from 1 to 49? idontknow

When I was in Kenya and Tanzania in 2001 I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro.  Just the cost for a guide was US$1000 and the parks fees were about the same. Extras such as transport is additional.  A complete rip-off.

Unfotunately all these place are geared towards the rich tourist dollar and the locals lose out.

It's sad indeed. A local Secunda businessman recently charged a group of 3 American technical advisors     R24 000 just to fly them down to Skukuza in his Cessna. Funny enough, they thought it was a bargain!!!!!

OK that settles it then I was planning a trip starting at Kaprivi and wending my way to the coast then to Etosha and crisscrossing all the way until I got to a dorpie called Oranjemund.

Now I won't bother.............

A tip Robert, get somebody local to plan and arrange your trip. Dont do your bookings etc from the UK.

Moi, pitch a tent??! What an absurd & ridiculous assumption. One does not do tents.

One has become used to 5 star hotel treatment while one is away on one's business trips and vacations. So, one does not think a tent will do for one?

Any de luxe hotel accommodation in the town? Not like the Canyon Hotel at Keetmanshoop...pleeeeeeeeeeezzz not.  It was the pits back in the '80's. I was hoping it'd be condemned and pulled down.

One has to remember that one is visiting a 3rd world country where one can not always aspire to find the right accomodation that one is accustomed too....... By the way ... I also remember telling you that if you ever did turn up here, I have a spare room....between my house of my in laws...., but they are English, so one might not feel at home....like one is used too....   :emot19:

Carl,

Why? What difference will it make? Do locals get preferential pricing? If so - then hell yes I will find someone to do it. Any recommendations? Mmmm?

One must be careful that one does not get to accustomed to using large smiley's in one's posts....

On a serious side, I knew of German(namibian) people in WHK that would book and pay for their overseas relatives as back in the day it worked out quite a bit cheaper.... but that was a good few years ago.....

It still works out cheaper this way. Most tourism orientated businesses have a field day ripping off dollar, pound, and euro paying customers.
