Title: Sperrgebiedt, the South Sea Post Fence!
Post by: Michael Alexander on June 07, 2008, 08:06:08 AM
I'm sure  a lot of you will remember that when you walked northwards along the beach, you would eventually hit a huge barbed wire fence that ran straight into the ocean, Reminding one of a World war one movie....Plastered all along the fence , were signs reminding one that this was the famous Sperrgebiedt and you could no go any further,,,, welll this morning , Shadow and I took a walk up there, to find that the fence had almost surrendered itself to the elements..... the fence no longer ran into the ocean and in fact if you were not keeping and eye on the landside of the beach, you might walk into the mining area... I happened to notice to bright yellow signs and took a few snaps of them...... I do have it on very good authority that with todays technology , the need for physical fences to protect the Sperrgebiedt is no longer neccessary.... camera's and sensor do suffice....

I actually like this part of the beach the most, due to the fact that it is very quiet and no rubbish lying around...unspoilt..... and It's places like the beach that constantly remind me how lucky I am to still be living a good live in Oranjemund....
