I can remember working night shift at two plant and seeing domestic cats running around in the store rooms and workshops anyone know how they got up there. Its a pretty far walk from check point!
I do know that in the 70s & 80s quite a few of the guys in the single quarters in the mine took cats, dogs, birds and even a baboon into the mining area as pets - probably some offspring.
WHAT WERE YOU DOING IN THE SINGLE QUARTERS CHERRIE cat3
Yeah thats understandable! But amazing how animals adapt and become self suficient eating anything they can to survive!
@ Bobby - Cheeky devil -wouldn't you like to know!!!! image20
yes as it happens cherry, only joking, still havent had any word from coral, hope she is keeping well, take good care
Myself and Johan Di Paola set up fishtanks in the 4 plant tea room .. every trip to CT I would buy a few more specimens from the then OK bazaars pet section , drive them all the way up to OM .. My fishtank had two huge angelfish in it .. also in the 4 plant office block .. Ethel Holmes was the secretary/receptionist and I waould always be called to tend the tank in the reception area if it leaked or fish were looking distressed .. Wonder what happened to those tanks and their occupants ??

After you left there was no more fish food.
people started to feed them bread, water went green and the tanks were turfed out.
Uugh! nobody with an ounce of care in their veins left behind ??
ive asked this before, can anyone remember the fish pond between the pool and the cafe,it had a bridge over it,those goldfish were fed a variety of stuff, ice cream, chips chocolate logs, tex bars, starrs, pepermint chrisps, you name it xx
Yup .. remember that pond with the bridge over it .. and yes goldfish are like pigs they can eat anything and live ...
There was a fishpond at OPS as well, in the courtyard outside the main hall. Same story, bread, pies, cake. The fish had a ball.
Here we go Bobby. Posted others under Mini Gardens in anything goes.
I wonder if the number of fish ponds at North hostel still exists. I remember huge fish there.
thanks diana, wonderfull memories,do you know who the peple are in that picture
@ Bobby that would be my sister Irene and myself with hands in pond ,my brother Shawn in pram ,and brother Keith with our Granny. Don't want to move the photo's here but under mini gardens, anything goes is a photo of that rockery. Remember how we would take our towels from the pool and go tan up there or wet the towels and play stingers all through those rocks.
yes i rember it well,thanx again x
Actually, Bobby has a point, what was Cherry doing in the Single Quarters..... ?

Hi Bertie all has gone the complete hostel is gone and maybe the fish have been eaten?
Alfred
Who had the fish braai???????? :wow1:
The ponds in Berties' pics are at Uubvley Hostel which was vacated last year. The Bogenfels Arch pond was empty for some time, was fenced in and turned into a bird cage which I found lacking of birds even 10 years back when I returned to Uubvley.
Now it all stands unoccupied like Affenrucken and Mittag hostels.
North Hostel and the old Production Centre was flattened around 11years back to mine out the area. Driving past there now you would never say that there was once a hostel complex there.
