Hi Georg, Diana, Bobby and Co, Thank you for welcoming me to the board and yes, I am delighted to have seen and met so many of old school and working colleagues. Brings back so many memories. I lived across the road from Diana, the Laubsers were next to me and on the other side was the Johnsons. Thats of course before I left home and stayed in the single quarters. Had great fun there too with all the guys, Dieter Heyser, Leon Sumpter, Derreck Anderson, Ronnie van den Elshout, Keith Gass, Mike Hanekom, Viv Reyneke and the list can just go on LOL. Those days was motor bikes, hi-fi's, soccer etc.
I want to give a brief overview of what has happened in my life since leaving Omund. I left in January 1980 and went to Cape Town where I lived in the Gardens and met Lynne at her twin sisters wedding. Mike Hardman should remember this as he invited me to a wedding the same weekend also in Cape Town. Lynne and I got married in July 1981 and moved to Premier Mine (Cullinan). My eldest son Craig was born in Cullinan in 1982. We lived in Cullinan till 1984 when Andre Spies convinced me to join ESKOM Matla Power Station. Andre came all the way from Kriel over a weekend to fetch my CV LOL. I was fortunate to get the job at Matla Power Station and lived in Kriel till 1995. My youngest son Brett was born in Witbank in 1985 as there were no hospitals in Kriel LOL. I have 2 wonderful boys who have done me proud till today and have stood by me through thick and thin. It is sad to say that Lynne passed away in April 2001 and was left to get the boys through schooling and now working. After the incident with Lynnes death, I sold my home and moved to Pretoria as I was consulting then with a company based in Pretoria. I remarried in April 2003 but things did not work out between our kids and divorced in February 2005 and worst of all I was retrenched in January 2005. This was a nightmare for me as I was unable to find any employment as my age and colour was not right. Luckily I had a cell number of a Director that I worked for before and he got me back on my feet again. I am still doing consulting work now at Vodacom in Midrand. I have been there from September 2005 to present.
Thanks for the potted histoy Pepe; sad about your wife - our sympathy. Also nice to have more of the real old timers on the board ne Diania, Richard, Sandy et al! beautiful
Thanks Cherry, I appreciate it. I will be posting some pictures on the site some time of Bakers Bay, 3 Plant, Oranjemund primary School etc. I just need to have them scanned in electronic format. Spent the weekend looking through all my phots and came across these. I have a lovely photo of me and my then family as well.
@ Pepe - Just be careful, this site is very addictive! But wonderful to hear all the stories, looking forward to seeing some of your photos. Great "family" we have here on OMD online. I'm sure you'll feel well at home. Wait till Diana invites you over for a drink and to watch some pole-dancing in the bar!
:sorriso2:
Yes Pepe. Great idea.
@ Bertie, I know this site is very addictive LOL. I can't seem to stay off it. Yes it is great to hear all the old stories and to share with everyone. Oranjemunders are a special breed of people and are great in all. We are like a big family as we do care about one another no matter how long or when we saw each other last. Now I need an Oranjemunder wife LOL as they are special woman and filled with fun!!!. Will let you know when I have managed to post some pics. Would love to see the Diana pole dance LOL. Have a great day and regards to all. :sorriso2:

Hi Cherry, I know that too damn well LOL but you know me, I am as cool as a cucumber LOL. I actually got accustomed to the nick name. The name came from Ivan Morrow when I was a boy scout. How and where he got it from I don't know. I am looking forward to your email my dear Cherry e154
@ Pepe - I think I'll post these pictures of a Cricket Club Mug here with your posts. I think you would like it, for there's quite a few names on it you would remember!!!! The mug was given to me by Denis R. Roberts.

This must've been in the 60s Pepe. I think Ivan took care of the scouts then. Am I on the right way?
@ Hi Georg Jnr, you're on the right track, Ivan was our scout master at that time and the year was 1966.
@ Hi Bertie, thanks for those great pics of the beer mugs. I remember a lot of the names on there. As Diana said, it's a great contribuition to the site.
I remember when the town was opened and everybody was allowed to go to the log-cabin, Ivan mentioned something like he had been one of the builders of the cabin. True?
@ Georg Jnr, I will be honest with you but don't recall him building the log cabin. The scouts used to use it on their camps etc. Maybe Ricky Barron or Nigel Borain will know. We were all scouts together at that time.
In our time (70s) it was Shepards Neck.
@Bertie, I see my dad's name on the 3rd mug with, Jerry Howson, Trevor Heydenrych, Tony Dunster, Jock Carr, Roy Dempsey, Bill Fry, Arthur Gray, Les Head, Ivan Morrow, Ian Johnston, Johnny Rall, Vic Nortier etc.
@ Pepe - yes, I see his name there. That's why I decided to post the pictures of the mug here on your topic. My Dad (Bertus) also remembers your Dad and quite a few of the names on there as well.
Thanks Bertie, it is a great momento to me. Knew most of all those guys and were all good friends of my dad. I remember my dad had one of those mugs at home which he used to drink his good old Windhoek Export Lager LOL
Hi Pepe,
I don't personally remember you, but my dad (Chris Lotte) always asks about you when I mention Jean. I've been corresponding with her for several years now and saw her the last time I went to SA (2004). My dad remembers you very well and will be pleased to know that you're doing well.
Patricia
Hi Pepe,
I'm not sure you remember me, but I was quite good friends with Paul Lisser, and am still very good friends with Richard Opperman and Erwin Lisser . . .
I remember you well, where you guys used to buzz around on your 5occ bikes . . .
Greetings from,
That Canadian "Pole Guy" (Keith Margetts)
Well hello there.... pole-small Mr Cananda Boobs
The Canadian Pole guy makes a welcome return........ arse
Hi Keith, yeah I remember you very well too. I will be honest when I first saw your name it rang a bell and slowly the picture came to light LOL. How are you doing and the family? Are you living in Canada now? I havn't heard from Erwin Lisser, how is he keeping and why is he not on the site LOL. Anyway it was great to hear from you and all the best.
regards,
Pepe.
