What year was this? Who of you were there?
I do remember parachutist's at one of the Christmas Trees, so must have been late 60's or very early 70's. If this is the same thing (Cricket fields)
I remember my dad telling me about when he organised the parachutists to come to town they were taking off from alexander bay for their shows secrity coldnt understand it because they exited town about 6 times but only entered town once!
Jay, this might have been the crowd from your old mans time...
Could be! He told me I was about 5 or 6 and the guys wanted to take me for a ride in their plane at first my dad was fine with this untill he saw the state of their plane apparently there was no door and the plane looked like Mcguiver had fixed it with his pocket knife and some bubble gum!
You're right Jeremy. The year Santa came to town with the parachute! Will post a few more pics in next hour if my reception is better. Must be between '68-71.
Ok well that before my time I was born in 85 and we movd to omund in 86 so this was probably 89-90s
Some pics of Santa dropping in for the Christmas tree!
@ Diana - Sorry, didn't see your post! Our parachutists (+Santa) must be different ones to Jeremy's then.

I think it was in 1968, I remember the helicopter going over with santa in it.
Yes Mavis - here's the helicopter to refresh the memories!
Nice pics Bertie, the chopper is the same one that serviced the mdc boats ...
Yep, that chopper looks like the one based at Affenrucken for a while.
Went up in it a few times.....
It was around 1966 to 1968. I was in the radio shop at the time and actually did some of the commentating as the aircraft was dropping markers to test the wind drift. I have (blush blush) 8 mm movies of some of that event. Flew a few times to some radio outposts - Tsaikop near Luderitz and to the off shore barge 'Pamona". Some video f that. The pilot was Claude Berteau (sp) which I have some movies of him flying that huge helicopter. Just a memory. I love the flying.
