Title: Museum
Post by: Lionel Hillebrand on July 31, 2007, 07:25:30 PM
Hi there Michael,
Just joined and was delighted to read all the comments on various topics. Was particularly interested in the subject of the "Museum".

I was fortunate to be able to visit Oranjemund 3 years ago with my wife Dalena to take a walk down memory lane. We visited the museum which was still being resurected at the time and could identify with numerous artifacts on display. I also went to visit the Radio workshop where I trained as a pupil technician (I believe I was the first technician  to have been trained in Oranjemund at the time) The gentleman took me around the new workshop and mentioned that the various (now outdated) equipment would be displayed in the museum in due course.

Lionel, great to have you onboard. The museum went through up and down stages during the last 18 years, Depending on which "bored" housewife had time on her hands, the company seemed to have washed their hands of the place until recently somebody over realized the tourism potential and money was redirected back to that side. Slowly but surely it is being put back together, and to be honest is looking quite good.

I believe they are scrounging all over the place for bits and pieces to add to their collection.

enjoy
Mike
