Title: A Sad Email, can you suggest?
Post by: Michael Alexander on July 02, 2008, 07:52:53 AM
As many of you know, I receive a lot of emails these days, most looking for ex Oranjemunders, others just raving about the site.... but after one year this has to be the most depressing mail that I have received, I unfortunately cannot help Tracey, times have changed here in Oranjemund, I suggested to her of letting me post it on the forum, perhaps somebody out there has been in a similar situation and can advice....

"Hi Michael

I really enjoyed looking at your website. It brought back some really good memories
from my childhood. I am very interested in coming back to Oranjemund to live.
I am a single mom of 42 years with a 14 year old daughter. Can you please tell me
if you know what the job situation is like. What is Oranjemund like now? I have checked
the internet but there doesn't seem to be much information on it. I am currently living
in Port Elizabeth and the working situation is critical. I have been repping for many
years. The company that I was working for shut down and I have been unemployed
for 2 months. When you apply for a job here there are +-300 applicants all trying for
the same job. Never before have I felt so lost and when I think back on Oranjemund
I get a feeling of it being a place were I felt safe.

I would really appreciate it if you would take some time out and drop me a line.
Again thanks for the great website.

Kind regards

Tracey Luke

ps: Michael can you please let me know if there is work in Oranjemund for women
so that I can get this ball on the roll. As from Tuesday I am going to be evicted
from my home due to not having the money to pay my rent. Sorry to burden you
with my sad story, but I don't know who else to contact in Oranjemund. We left
in the 70s to come back to this dump. Thanks Again!"

@ Tracey and Mike, the only way we might be able to help is seeing Traceys CV and take it from there. I will try and see what I can do once seen the CV and send it my network of friends.

@ Tracey - Will be rooting for you!  I hope there's light in the end of the tunnel, and the tunnel is VERY short!

Good idea about the CV, Pepe.  Maybe Tracey can forward something, I would also like to try and see if there's anybody on my e-mail list that could be of assistance.  Who knows?

Good luck Tracy - hope it all works out.  I'm a big believer in the power of possitive thinking.   giverose e154

Negative thinking comes from Satan, Positive thinking comes from God. Yeah you right Claire, I am a firm believer and have also been through what Tracey is going through and was unemployed for 9 months. Just push on and Trust and Believe. As Bertie says, send the CV and you never know who at the end of the short tunnel can assist you.

My husband has been out of work since November,  but the good news is that he gets to spend more time with our two sons.   bighug
the Dadies always miss out with the kids.  And they grow up so quickly - so he is enjoying it and making the most of a difficult situation.

Awful to  report  back  . but even my  friends In PE echo what  Tracey says ..  more  people than jobs .. Robbie  is  fortunate in that he  owns a  shoe  shop  . mostly cash sale  and seems to  be  surviving  and  breaking even  and  that for a  new   business  . his  partner  doing  well in  architecural firm .. thats one  area  where things still  seem to be  holding ..  Dont know  quite  what to say ..

I guess being evicted from your house prevents one from surfing the net?
