I have to ask this....do all the std 5's still jump in pool with full school uniform I remember 1972 when i was in std 5 swimming pool was closed for renovation and we got special permission to jum in General Managers pool
Lorena I remember that pool jump at the GM's. Was amazed by the size of the property and I seem to recall getting cold drink and snacks of sorts and a guided tour of the house.
Hi Lorena, my kids are at OPS now and the Std 5's (or Grade 7's as they are now known) still jump into the pool on their last day of school!
I don't remember it being such an emotional day but my eldest reckons a lot of the kids walk around in tears - from Grade 1 to Grade 7 - because it is the last day for the Grade 7's!

It was always emotional I think as friends you were able to see every day were going off to boarding school and scattered all over the place...am sure everyone then and now still feels the same. I recall my first day of std 6 away from home and friends "HORRIBLE" and not one friend was at the same school as me "EVEN MORE HORRIBLE"
I concur.... I never liked my first year or two at Boarding school.... once I looked old enough to slip into the bottle Stores and clubs in Cape Town... all that changed..... bigtime..... had to find ways of getting more money to party.... image11 discodance
I guess I was lucky in that there were 3 of us that went to the same high school. Also there were other O'munders in higher standards who helped us sort ourselves out and kept an eye on us. The other girls at school were always jealous because we got to fly home every holiday and always used to leave school before school closed, the only horrible thing was having to drag our suitcases the whole way from the hostel to the front of the school where the bus used to pick us up. I was in Std 7 in 1990 and we came home 3 days before school closed so that we could be at home for the Independance celebrations - that was great!
...by Standard 8 it was easier, besides how many of us made new friends out there and even during holidays at the pleasure of bragging to them when we brought them up here for the holidays....
