That's great Mike.
What's interesting to me, is that the Orange used to flow through where OM is today. See "Alter Flusslauf" on the map.

I presume that, that means alternative floodplain?

I don't know what you'd call it in English, but it means the place the river used to flow through. old river bed???

I think you're right.  It could be the "floodline" - there might have been signs that the water rose to that level in the recent past.  Very interesting.

Old river bed is correct

This old river bed was uncovered in bedrock cleaning operations in areas 'U' and 'G'. It consisted of a flat clay bedrock as opposed to the usual one to two meter deep chlorite schist gullied bedrock found in the south of the Sperrgebiet. The overlying gravels were extremely rich especially in the 'N'blocks next to the east cliff.

Lovely map by the way. If I knew how it was done I could post a series of old german maps of the early 'Wander' claims around Luderitz and Kolmanskop.G

Dont put the picture in a word doc,

Only atchach it in the post with the function additional options

That function works for sound files, pictures, videos etc but is limited in kBs

Pictures could also be added in word, but thas not so good

In regards to homepages, you will learn that with time to come....just one step after the other

Gordon,
The area that you mentioned, is that that the old Clay channel that passes through the Uubvley area because the area on the map looks as if it flowed through the Town area

You dead right Clive. The one further south was called the esturine delta. Also a flat clay deposit on top of the bedrock. The old river bed I was referring to had its southernmost extent in the vicinity of 100G. Best regards
Gordon

Hi Gordon,
Just talking about these areas sent me back to thinking about the nights I spent on the dump at 32G and the old landrover SC1180 that we used to change shifts.
I am busy on a project to refurbish the Namdeb FTP (Floating Treatment Plant) plant which is supposed to treat the Southern areas from 65G south.
I remember Martin Gerber and the Benotos sampling that area in 1970.

Hi Clive - are you working with Chris Smit on the project?

Mike wants to know if you'll be coming back to Oranjemund for a site visit.

Hi Michele,
I'm currently working for ADP a CT based company and sometime in the future a site visit may be in order.
Hopefully it will go better than the last one where I had some work to do in Luderitz for E-Bay. I was advised by the one Ovambo customs officers at Vioolsdrift that I should have my permanent residednce permit cancelled in my passport if I was working in CT and not living in Namibia.
He was however unable to give me an answer when I asked if That would mean I no longer needed to pay Namibian taxes to help keep him in his comfortable position.
Anyway the other official from Rheoboth came over and did the honours ans said that I should not pay attention to what was said.

Hello Clive
I certainly do remember the old landy. When I arrived on the mine in 1968 we had a pool of mining supervisors (called operators at the time). Working in 'G' Area were the following; Martin Gerber, Guy Yeadon, China de Jager, Claude Short, Piet Badenhorst, Jim Reed, Sakkie Burden (overburden stripping) and myself. Mine foremen at the time were Adam Swart, Alex Cruikshank, Leon Botes, Dave Linaker and Hannes van Aswegan. The senior mine foreman was a grand old fellow Arthur Snow. Oom Koos Maritz manned the handyman shop and Tommy Slow was the beltsman. We worked a 10 hour shift six days a week with the third Saturday in the month off.
Best regards
Gordon

Gordon, your still as sharp as ever, I think by the time I started in Dec 1969, Gunter Salscow was the Senior mine forman in the Gemsbok area.
I saw Joe (china) de Jager in Tygervalley last year.
When can we get together for coffie and a chat
Clive
