A few pics of Big Dirk & Joey. The quality is not very good, sorry.
Pic 1 - Big Dirk in the Police Station in Oranjemund
Pic 2 - Big Dirk - still healthy and big like you all have known him
Pic 3 - Big Dirk with brother Leon's son at birth - as you can see - he was already very ill and thin then (oh my poor dad - how I miss him!)
Pic 4 - Ma Joey with brother Leon's son (and how I miss her - already 7 months since her death) - also thin and not healthy anymore on this pic.
Bless them both - they are happy and healthy where they are now.
Thanks for sharing your memories and pics with us Dalene.
Amongst all of my parents stuff I discovered a silver mug, sort of like a beer mug - very heavy and it looks like it has been hand made. Engraved on this mug are the words S.W.A. POLISIE, ORANJEMUND, 27-01-1986.
I think this is the mug that was given to my dad by Security when they held his farewell before they moved to Luderitz. Amazing.....
Does anyone know about this mug?
Dalene, take a photo and post it....
Dalene
Die fotos is die presiese weergawe van hoe ek jou pa onthou. Amazing

Dankie Dalene, dis ook hoe ek jou ouers onthou van my tyd in OM.
Firstly - again I have to thank Mike for making it possible for me to post these pictures here. He scanned away on pictures and slides for the whole of Wednesday morning.
A better format of the previous posted pictures and some more...
Pic 1 - Big Dirk in the charge office at the Police Station
Pic 2 - Big Dirk at a medal parade - receiving his medal from the AG of the old SWA - mister Danie Hough
Pic 3 - Big Dirk and Joey with youngest grandson Dirk (Leon's son) at this baptism
Pic 4 - Big Dirk, Joey and us kids
Oh my gosh - how I wish they could have been at the reunion! (but I think in spirit they were)
Hi Dalene,
Thanks ever so much for sharing your photo's with us. It does really bring back many memories. I am sorry to hear about the losses and as you say, they are better off where they are right now. Same with my dad, miss him still today but will always have the good memories. Take care now.
Regards,
Pepe
