Title: Georgs Medizini!
Post by: georg ruf jr. on July 12, 2008, 03:23:23 PM
One of my hobbies, is making Schnaps and Liqueur. The one I'd like to show today is a kind I've never seen any private person making. So something I'm quite proud of.
It tastes simular to Jaegermeister, but is obviously a lot better.  202
I call this liqueur Medizini, because of the smell it has before matured enough.

1) Starting off with green (to the centre) wallnuts.
2) Putting it into prune schnaps with 45% alcohol.
3) Leaving it to mature in the sun i turns black after several weeks.

1n a second glass 2 or 3 weeks later the next step.

1) + 4) Getting herbes in my wifes garden. The only herb I know he English word for is pepperment.
2) + 3) Washing and drying.

1) Waste! Only best quality for the Medizini.
2) Herbes with spices in schnaps: Cloves, cinammon, cardamom, caraway, pimento.

Leave this in the sun for several weeks.
Pour both liqueds together through a siv and add sugar. It takes about 1 or 2 months till it's ready. But medizini ases best afer Xmas or even easter time. Estimated 40% alcohol.

We drink this when we have an upset tummy or a cold/cough. It works...  swink 202

How to serve:
1) straight (actualy the best way)
2) on the rocks
3) on he rocks with lemon.
4) or any other way you like.... As long as i gives you a spinn.

Oh yes it is Michele. But very delicous. The wallnuts give this drink a very special note.
To your smileys. Never drink to feel like the green man. To much work in this Medizini to drink all the way....

Nice Georg!
Walnut contains a lot of tannins and also linoleic acid (important dietary supplement), which will turn your Medizini into a great gastro-intestinal antiseptic and antidiarrhoeal.
I'm interested in the herbs you used.  I tried to identify them but it's a bit difficult on the photos.  How many different herbs did you use?
Some of the leaves/flowers look like Sage (Gartensalbei/Echter Salbei), Lemon balm (Zitronenmelisse) and Corn mint (Ackerminze).  If that's the case, hey, I might import some - great mix!

If however I'm giving your secret recipe away - delete, quickly!

The best schnaps I ever tasted was a pepper schnaps given to me by Schalk in Luderitz.

Good eyes Bertie. Yes, it's Sage and Lemon balm. Sage is good for your chest when you have a cough. I added lemon balm because of the flavour. At first I tried lemons, but this way I know my herbes are bio.
As I mentioned further bach, I use peppermint. In his case it's mainly "Appfelminze". The leaves are roundish, a lighter green and bigger than the regular mint. The flavour is milder.
Caraway helps you regulate your winds.  202

That's a great atitude.
Most people just pour the stuf down their throught, as if afraid of the taste. I hink they're worried about "burning"v their tongue.

1) Never chill schnaps!
2) Pour into a bulb like glass. This way the aroma spreads and you'll be smelling it before it hits your tongue.
3) Take only a few drops on your tongue. Let the aroma spread in your mouth.
4) Enjoy and repeat.

Yes Berie, since June. In fact, I posted the first pics in the evening after "mixing" everything.
Tried some last night with fresh lemon. Hmmm! Delicous.
By the way. I asked Mike to start a "Swop Board" and told him the 2 of us would do the moderation. lol He said he'd take care of it. Mike!! What's taking you.
I think it would be great swopping things we like ourselves. Like me swopping Medizi for what ever anybody else likes. I'm sure it would be fun.
