Title: Beached
Post by: Richard Opperman on August 04, 2008, 04:05:25 PM
O shit where did I make the wrong turn! – The captain said to his first mate.

By now, most of you heard of the two fishing boats that beached themselves last week.
The story goes that one boat got rope tangled around its prop – the other boat come to the rescue and landed in trouble.

Here are some shots I took on Saturday- boats are between Blouberg Strand and Melkboss.
Keep well.

Cape of srorms
It won't be the last
I recently saw a programme on the rescue of Oceanis, who remembers that cruise ship sinking of the wild coast in 1990/1
the musicians coordinated the rescue the captain and his crew left the passengers to their own devices.

My cousin, who was officer commanding at Port Elizabeth airbase at the time, was involved in the rescue mission.

I have heard from a reliable source that the two boats beached were up to no good.
Apparently, the steel hull boat had over fished its quota of tuna - the wooden boat was brought out of the dry dock to do a skelm transfer between Robben Island and Blouberg Strand.

The crew on the wooden boat was a bit slow in pulling in the rope linking the two boats in the transfer - which wrapped around its prop and caused both to beach.

The latest on the wooden boat is that it has broken up into three pieces. The other, there is talk of still getting it off.

Hi All,

The latest on the boats that beached near Cape Town.

I was returning from one of my Appletiser one of my customers on Tuesday 26/08/2008 and was listening to the radio while driving back to Table View.

They had mentioned that they were going to move the steel-hulled boat earlier that morning. The progress report as I neared Table View was that it was moving slowly up Blaauwberg Road. As I entered Blaauwberg Road from Koeberg Road side, I saw it coming up slowly on the opposite side.

The photographs below are two I took with my phone while driving, so please excuse the quality.

First one - Shit I defiantly took the wrong turn!!
Two - Passing my window.

Keep well.
