Did any of you ride around town on the different bus routes just for the fun of it or boredom????

Guilty of that.  Buses were a novilty I remember them being introduced.  Social event catching a bus.  We never used them to go anywhere.

Do you remember the buses that collected you when going on holiday, the luggage was collected a few days before departure, then on the morning we would wait out the back gate and we transported to checkpoint xray security 5th avenue, our parents would have to empty their pockets and go through the xray room, one at a time, I was never xrayed to my knowledge.  Once on the other side we'd get back on the bus and travel to Swartkops were all the private cars were kept.

Another hour of getting the thing started using the "donkey" a battery and cable system on wheels.

And then over the bridge, through the gate and onto the dirt road to port nollath.

Count down onto the tar road and the 10 hours of driving along the N7 to Cape Town.

Double decker buses, elevators and lifts, sky scrapers and beaches where you could actually swim.  Aagh what a childhood of memories.

I remember the bus rides down to the pink pan and beach on a Sunday! Does this still happen?
