As some of you know, we took a quick Winter trip down to the Cape to get the Car serviced..... here are a few shots, including a few from the Red bus, that tourist bus that drives around Cape TOwn, we even managed to find an Irish pub for Rhona and Mick when they come over here one day....... :ciupa1:
Another great place to take the kids, is a place called Butterfly World, on The R44 to Klapmuts.......
Also on the R44 heading towards the N1 is a cool country farm type restaurant that serves the most amazing homemade pies, best I have tasted....their Cabanossi is also the best that I have tasted in a while...... We also went to Fairview wine farm, I was looking for Goats cheese, love the stuff.... and to a Lion Farm.....
The standard of Service at the Surfside Restaurant on the Strand Pavillion has improved and we had two nice sundowner suppers there....lekker Creamy Peri Peri Chicken Liver Starters and quite a few tourists .......
....

Seems like it was a great holiday. So, you not on one of the photo's - did they leave you at home?

@ Mike .. i was just quick off the mark on that one ... could not resist .. Paula and Jnr did me over so weelll i had to just well kind of redeem meself ... amazing how at times we write something and then afterwards think about it and the context ... I got this mental pic of creamy peri peri chicken livers followed by tourists ...
Do you like snails Sandy? Shannon has developed a liking for them and reckons that after eating snails at a couple of different places in Cape Town none of them compare to the snails she had at Fanie's! She has managed to convince her Pops (my dad) that we need to go to Fanie's to celebrate his birthday and that none of the restaurants in town will do - just so that she can have snails there again!

Eaten snails .. yes they need lots of garlic .. on their own they pretty much tastless .. a different eating experience yes .. my personal opinion .. over rtated . but then again you have a child with an experimental palate .. encourage the experimentation ... one could say the same for the Tofu .. its just a good sponge for flavours ... but then deep fried .. even on its own as i do some times .. just nice and chewy and yes full of good meatless protein ..
Funny enough Cameron also tried snails in Cape Town and reckons they taste like mushrooms. I know a lot of people who order snails purely to be able to dip the bread into the leftover garlic butter.
I'm amazed how experimental Shannon has become - the next thing she wants to try is crayfish. We've got a friend here who normally has a couple in her deepfreeze so I'll have to bribe her for some! Whilst at the Surfside Shannon ordered a plate of seafood, with mussels, prawns and then the normal calamari and linefish. She enjoyed the prawns but doesn't think she'll order mussels again. And this for a girl who hates pasta - who could hate pasta! Do you know the Afrikaans expression - sy eet met lang tande - that is Shannon when we have pasta for supper! The only time she likes it is when I make stroganoff with spaghetti - then she enjoys it! Just don't give her lasagne or spaghetti bolognaise, or my favourite with tomato and tuna - big no-no!

Mussels .. depending on how they prepared .. nothing better than cooked up in beer ala belgian style with a mirrepoix or in white wine also with mirrepoix .. or even better in a creamy white wine and garlic sauce .. lots of buttered french bread to slurp up the sauce .. Don P up the road used to do it well till they changed chef... Oh By the way the Indian restaurant ( with the extensive vegetarian menu ) i mentioned and submitted pic of some while ago was rated among the top 10 ethnic restaurants in the country .. congrats to them and just over a year in the going ... they in the same league as Bhukarra and the rest ...
