Strange as it may seem, but today Oranjemund came home. This website achieved what it was designed for. After a fantastic ,memorable three days, I had the honour of returning two old Oranjemunders to the Oranjemund Airport to catch their flight back to Cape Town and then onto Canada. After an incredible 30 years, John Creedy and Leila (Austin) returned to Oranjemund for a 3 days visit. They had first arrived in Oranjemund back in the 50's. In a sense they had returned "home"
They really enjoyed their short stay in Oranjemund, and the tales they recounted were incredible, days of SHerman Tanks in the streets, colourful characters, long since gone and the various houses they had stayed in.
Thanks to JD Van Der Merwe for opening up the Moths,To ANdre Fourie and Eddie Heusdens for showing John his old haunt , the Karate Dojo, To Dawn Watt for taking Leila back to her days of teaching at OPS, To Avril at the travel agency, to FC and Adriaan for letting John see a little known part of the Mine. I know John enjoyed his chats with many people including Stokkies and Nada .....
Their opinion of Oranjemund today, it looks fantastic, the tree's are way taller than they had expected..... and a lot of us still living here, do not realise what we have........
..... if this website had not been created, they would never have been back here.... They gave me many pointer that will allow me to be better prepared for the big Reunion in November....... it's gonna be a blast.....
I am sure John will be online to post his comments in a few weeks....
