Title: Lunch
Post by: Rhona on September 01, 2008, 01:33:52 PM
At the moment I appear to be addicted to sesame seed bagels - lightly toasted with a very low fat cheese spread, sliced tomato and some wafer thin ham or turkey meat...........mmm! mmmm!   feedme

 notfair feedme

By the time I went to get something to eat today there was nothing at the fastfood dept that didn't contain meat!

Your bagel sounds yummy - you can just keep the ham or turkey and add a couple of slices of cucumber or gherkin!

I was clever.... I waited till the bakery took hot cold crispy brotchens out of the oven at 14h00...bought some cooked ham and hot English mustard..... melted butter and away I went, although I put too much mustard on and blew my sinuses to hell and back.....  trex-073

Be warned, whilst on leave in CPT, I found the quality of the bread rolls in the South African stores of a poor quality....... The brotchen must be hot.... and crispy..... otherwise it just will not perform on your palate....  faceinfood

pls   Give the brotchen recipe to the SA bakeries, for they just do not know how to make them!  Each time we go to Windhoek, Swakop, Henties  -  we stuff ourselves with brotchens till we drop.  What I sometimes do is buy something like 100 on the day we start our trip back, and then I stick them in the freezer.  Later I will take them out - let them unfreeze and pop them into a medium hot oven for just 2 - 3 mins  -  good as freshly baked.  You can't do it with the buns you buy here in SA  -  they go all gooey.  Besides the point that the bread is of poor quality (why do you think I mostly bake my own bread?)  -  people stare at you like you have just arrived from the planet Zog when you ask for brotchens.  ----------

Mike  -  remember this:  I now order in advance 100 brotchens for the 15th Nov  -  the day we will leave after the reunion.  I am very serious about this.  It is an official order I am placing.   Thanx.
