Title: Alfred, Whats this Place?
Post by: Michael Alexander on September 04, 2008, 07:26:59 AM
Whilst googling some maps for the Reunion Programme , I got carried away and followed this dirt track I did not know about to the North of Oranjemund, but not in the actual mining area.... it looks like there might be HT lines here, if so, Alfred what is this place, what buildings are here?

I reckon that it must be about 20-30km east of Uubvley.......

Could have something to do with the road heading north-east which appears to have power pylons or power poles.  Perhaps some sub-station or workshop - something like that?  If you follow that road with the pylons then they do a right turn south-west and loop back towards the bridge.

Its still well inside Area No 1, although well east of the real mining areas

They actually dont seem to be pylons.  Listening posts? Motion detectors?  MIB could be watch your every move.....

It seems to be where Blouberg Radio mast is very close to the 66kV pylons

As far as i know, the 66 KV Lines end at the Sub near 3 Plant

Picture 1
The place mike is looking for is called Roter Kamm, SW of Witputs

Picture 2
To me it looks like an airstrip at Witputs

Roter Kamm is further to the Northeast and the "runways" are actually roads..... but on the bigger scale the road that runs west east has poles or pylons on the south side........ the buildings bother me.... it almost looks like a mini plant..... the roads also appear to be used a long time ago....   msn emoticon (9)

Hi Clive ~

Great ~ thanks!  In fact, things couldn't be better for those of us who thrive on a little bit of change (as you did many times over your +150 years at CDM/Namdeb!!).  I reckon if we hadn't had the turmoil we're presently negotiating our ways through, I'd probably have joined you in retirement by now!  Nothing like a bit of a challenge to bring people together!!  And you and yours?  Still got that cushy job close to the Waterfront?

I always thought that cushy was 09.00 to 16.00 or so
Mine is more like 05.00 to 18.00, yes a change, but I enjoy it.
Retirement, realy never had a chance to find out what it was like, took the wife three months to want me back at work.

Its great to be able to work flexi time - if the work dictates, I'm there if not, we take the gap and check out the wine farms & restraunts etc. ( Looks like I need to join a gym, after all, to lose some weight but thats anothe change)

ADP has moved from the CT harbour to Century city ( even closer commute for me)

MAy be up sometime if we get the FTP refurb job.

Sandy, you on the red wine,

Pete has made 65 posts, or does that make me 631 years of age and you 2135.

Petes perspective of the situation is a "Security" secret

@ Alfie, thanks for that...CLint also reckons it's the old radio mast buildings up at Blaauwberg(blouberg).... It just seems to be a lot of building there for an old radio mast.....
