Damn Mike - bet you never expected this sort of response.
You are going to need a lot more disk space for these messages and photo's if this keeps up.
Now all you need to do is find a way to make money from this! ;)
Damn, and I'm in the retail business... I slipped up there somewhere!.. I guess I've taken enough from people...time to give back....... well at least until Michele tells me to stop!
::)
I forgot, what I actually wanted to do was post two links to other Oranjemund based sites - all about bands in Oranjemund:
Sno Blind
http://www.rigsy213hotspot.freewebspace.com/ (There are even some gig movies on this site)
Bedrock
www.bedrockband.com
I would like to say a big thank you - it is so good to hear from everone, BRILLIANT SITE.
Mentioned this on the "looking for Oranjemunders" area and this seems to be just as good a spot (dammit). Try this link to www.sareunited.com (http://www.sareunited.com) and find some of your fellow Omunder high school hostel dwellers and tell them about OM online.
Mike, Thank you for this wonderful forum. Nicholas and I race each other to the study each day in order to get on first and even try to beat our daughter Alexa as she spends her time on MSN and my space, etc.
This has brought heaps of fun and great memories flooding back.
You are a genius!!
Hi Gabi, Mike and I seem to have the same problem when we are at home, luckily our girls have their own pc that Mike built up for them! When at work we each have our own pc's with internet connections so can log on to the forum together! Just worried about what our phone bill is going to be like at the end of the month!
Gabbi, Thanks for the kind words, but remember without all you Oranjemunders and your memories this site would have nothing.
The reasoning behind the main site , is that the company reckons the workforce is gonna be slashed in 2009 and land based operations will start to downscale, in essence the population of Oranjemund is gonna get smaller, and I'm just scared that the whole history of Oranjemund and her people's is gonna fade away. I don't want us all to turn 75 one day and wonder what on earth happened to this one and that one.... I wonder what ever happened to Oranjemund... etc.... This way we can all stay in touch, find old friends no matter what happens to the town!
Thanks once again to all you guys and gals, keep it going...
Mike
;)
Mike, you need to set up an account for donations, to keeping the site going.
Ive had more info from youe site than from the Namdeb Site ( When I retired, I was promised the news letters would be sent, never had one yet)
Thanks for the thought Clive, but I'm adamant not to get advertising or sponsors involved in this site, this is just a plain old fashion community.
I do not forsee any reason why this site will cease to function, if I die from my impending heartattack , then Michele will just have to get off Facebook and carry on the posting... ;D
Good on you Mike.
By the way my Moms still got all my Dads Beer mugs from the lodge pup nights. My Dad usually bought one for me & one for my Boet.
( I dont drink beer if I can help it - Captain Morgan's my idea of a drink)
My Dad's also got all those mugs from various functions including the Old Tyme night, He does'nt display them and has them all stored in a box in his parkhome.... i better inherit them one day..... :D
In his old house at E7-1st all the pelmets were full of those mugs..... Quite a few of them had the names of a lot of the old timers on them, which has just given me an idea!
::)
Mike my link went down earlier,
Whats your Idea, or will it make money
Photograph the mugs, scan them get the names and the years as it's all relevant historically to Oranjemund...
:)
Hey - I spend the same amount of time on your website as I do on Facebook! Don't forget I look after your facebook too!!!!
Mike let me know if you are missing any, I can check if my mom has these.
While I am online, I just remembered, please give Dewald Duvenghage a ring and ask him to let you have a copy of "Oranjemund in the 60's"
Viv Reyneke scanned this in but it is to big to e-mail. I gave Dewald a copy on a memory stick.
Its very informative & has a number of Old photos.
morning all.
My Dad still has all his mugs - taken out ever now and then - washed and put back in the cuboard.
My mom still has her egg collection. I remember when Vi buried one of them in the plant pot one night as a joke, and of course us kids got the blame for loosing it.
You right Mich.......only found out a few days ago about this site....Mike got hold of me on Facebook...
