hi Does anyone remeber the great series by Benedict Allen as he went trekking through Namibia.....I sat glued to the Tv all the series hoping he would eventually come to Oranjemund...as i had not heard anything aout the place since being there in the 60's........and then he arrived there....can any of you residents now remember him?? ...think the episode will be on tv anyday again now as a new series has just started on uktv documentary 1.
I did actually write to him via the tv channel to ask him about O/M and he did reply, i then wrote to the gereral manager in o/m at the time there who very kindly sent me info on the friend i hadnt seen for 40 years, which lead to a big reunion in cape town last year.
Come on....... someone start planning an even bigger reunion for all of us to connect once more.

I remember this chap Benedict Allen, Was about 15 years ago, I was working with Elize Holl, lookin after the OK's ( Oranjemund Kids) at the children's library during the school holidays. One day we took them off to the dog kennels, to meet this explorer. There he was on the lawns with these 3 massive camels, a Namdeb security officer, and a helper. The kids were so excited and I was just jealous, here was a guy that was being allowed to "trap" through the Mining area with his camels. I always had this vision of this man and his camels wandering past 4 plant......kinda stuck.... I think he spent two nights here...
Talking of modern day explorers, those who know him, Kinsley Holgate and his gang passed through town about 2 months back, and gave a presentation at the Rugby Club.
As for the reunion, Wait till the site hits 300 members before we start planning....

Yeah I also met him when he was in Oranjemund with his camels.. I have some photos somewhere. I just thought it funny how he was doing this whole adventure thing through the Namib but he was backed by a crew so it really wasnt as though he was at any real risk or anything. But it did make for good viewing.

I didn't stop because that car you were driving didn't look like it had any brakes! Besides, I thought you two were on your way home as I've never seen Mannetjie up that early in the morning! Next time don't hoot at me until we're outside a pub...then I'll pull over with a speed that is all too rarely seen!
