Title: This week .... I felt......
Post by: Michael Alexander on October 26, 2008, 04:10:07 PM
As quite a few of you will know.... I have lived in Oranjemund since 1972..... politics.... work ... love......  I have come and gone.... but ... I guess home was always here.... somewhere . ... stuck between the Mouth of the Orange river and the rolling dune belt of the Namib desert........ I mentioned this statement this week for the first time to Arthur at Spar..... Ask me not why.....or how come.... But when I came to work on Monday..... I had this "gut" feeling......... Oranjemund was on her last legs..... For the first time ever.... I felt....and I guess I knew.....Oranjemund town ...is on her last years..... as we all know.... way back in the 70's ... they always said.... 7 years to go...... just 7 years......... We laughed... we knew...... Well ... My ex Oranjemunders...... I fear.... that ,,,,,, that time has arrived...... Our youth...... Out homes... our Memories........ are about to go........

It's a good thing...that oranjemund...as we know it...will always survive..... on the net....................

I hope that you also ate some of that awsome potato salad you made   -   did you feel better or worse afterwards?

Yeah  -  you are allowed to have your   image031   moments  (even if helped on by  beermug20), for it is a sad thought that life as you had known it will only be just a good memory some day.  But...  life goes on  -  and at least the memories will be good ones to hold.

Mike, after spending my first 28 years of life in Omd I can sympathise how you and the rest of the residents feel about the future of the best little oasis in the world. As long as this website keeps going, Omd will remain that little oasis with all it's brilliant memories and great times spent in it's splendour amongst good friends. Don't give up hope Boet, and send me some of that salad (COD is fine hee hee).

Diana .. Ina Paarman  is a close friend of Mike and his tummy ..  her products are on the Spar shelves ...  braai marinades etc .. nice  wholesome shortcuts .. take a bet a good lot of her  products are in woolies under their label .. and boy are they fussy  .. the MSG's and all nasty shyt slowly disapearing off their shelves ...   by the way  do you boil your own potatoes   or does Steve  boil them and then you assemble salad ?? as you may burn them in the boiling process   ???   ape

I also make a good potato salad. The first step is to cook the right potatoes. My favourite is BP potatoes but they seem to be scarce these days, farmers are planting more pest-resistant varieties but they don't taste or cook as well as a BP.

I dont do potato salad .. but I love the woolies  mediterranean  potato's .. they nice and yellow and creamy inside ..  I boil them in their skins in salty water ..  slice them in half and lay them  cut side down in a mix of olive oil and  woolies veg stock or Vogel herbal salt and  do them a while in the oven ... Yummy and then they even taste good  when cold .. i beleive the best part of nutrition in taters lies just directly under the skin so i always keep it on...

The secret to a good Potato salad is Lemon & Dill spiced into it...serve with Garlic pork neck steaks of the braai fire......
