Title: The police Driving Force!
Post by: Michael Alexander on October 29, 2008, 04:56:36 AM
from News24 today:

Cape Town - Nathi Mthethwa, the new Safety and Security Minister, has told Parliament that 5 733 police officers do not have valid driving licences.

These include 3 338 inspectors, 1 712 sergeants, and as many as 280 captains.

Giving these figures in a written answer to a parliamentary question from James Masango of the Democratic Alliance circulated on Tuesday, Mthethwa said the current figures were arrived at after a verification process which followed a similar question put last year.

He also admitted that the non-drivers included 620 members of the detective service and 67 from crime intelligence. Altogether 4 984 members of the visible policing units could not drive. Seventeen superintendents cannot either.

The provincial breakdown of non-drivers shows that Gauteng and the Eastern Cape account for more than half the cops unfamiliar with the steering wheel. "

Makes me think of the old song:

"England swings like a pendulum do,
Bobbys on bicycles, two by two......"

Halt  -  who goes there?  If you move I will let my donkey bite you    202

Hah !  all so interesting ... makes me think back to the issue of the level of fitness of our new police force .. went  down to the BP station down the road to buty ciggies just now  . there was some  drama with some guy with his imaginary gold card that got swiped twice .. anyhow two members of our illustrious new police force arrived .. nice pleasant folk ..  eased the guy out of the  BP shop .. but  Ohmigawd  were they a  very  round and robust team ... the man and the  lady were   rotund beyond all measure ..  no ways they could  do  pursuit  of a criminal on foot .. what happened to their  proposed  fitness  program ??
I blame part of this on that  PE  or PT  is  no  longer part of our  regular school routine .. I see  young men not even in their 20 's  walking around in worse physical shape than me no posture  etc .. slim but with  already sprouting potbellies . .. I thank the stars that we had PE yonks ago  .. it was a good  foundation ... and still bears its evidence in me many  years later ...

cat1.gif  ..   no  not  blaming ..  in my case blessing  ..  has   bearing ..  although  studies  on identical twins show how lifestyle and  mental attitude can   actually  subtly  alter a persons  genetic  make up  for the better or the worse ..
