Title: One man's loss is another man's gain
Post by: Carl Wrbka on November 02, 2008, 07:26:00 AM
Ever wondered why European trauma surgeons and paramedics are so good? Cos we train them here in SA of course!

I got a couple from Germany visiting us at the moment, and the wife is an ICU nurse in Munich. She told us that student doctors from Germany are routinely sent over to Baragwanath hospital in Soweto during their internship. Apparently the type of trauma found in our country is almost unheard of in Germany (stabbings, gunshots, machete slashings, etc), and the only way they can get experience is to do a stint at one of our local government hospitals. Apparently many of their cardio-thorasic surgeons chose to do their internship in SA as well, as we are considered to be the world leaders in this field.  Interesting nogal.

And you thought only Cuban doctors worked in our state hospitals...
