Post by: Michael Alexander on November 03, 2008, 01:40:12 PM
Went swimming this morning in the town pool....... Jeepers, Unhealthy temperature at an incredible 27.5 degrees...... talk about energy saving keeping those boilers running all the time at that temp!

They  heat  the pool  now ??  ..   with  oil burners ??   mm I remember  when we used to  wait in the  afternoons  after school for the pool to open and  Mrs Lindhout  used to write the  temperature on a board outside .. we used to  wish  the  temp higher   some  days ... as it could get cold with  wind chill ..
next question .. there is an abundance of sun in O'mund .. why do they  not have batteries of  solar panels  for heating ..  solar  heating  works ..  even  if  it  supplements  conventional .. I  tend to  take the  touted promises of  savings up to  50 %  ridiculous .. my  experience in CT is  25 - 30 %  which is  fair .. and think of  many  doing that .. it  amounts to a major load  drop on the grid ..

Mike, are there still high "cypress" trees around the pool?  Do they still cut off branches for Christmas trees in December?  The smell of those trees will always make me think of Christmas!

Nope, Nope, they were removed about twenty odd years back as their roots were cracking the pool...... mostly cement and one Palm tree in the corner by the community church, with grass.... and then there is a split Christmas tree in the corner by the library, also with grass..... outside the front door of the pool, the old trees were replaced with green kameeldoringbooms!

Thanks Mike - the temp was only 25C today! I quite liked the water the way it was - much easier to get into!
