This week-end Oranjemund is hosting a Cultural Festival and part of the celebrations is a Community Builder prize-giving. During the past couple of months the community of Oranjemund have been asked to submit names of people (and letters of motivation) of people whom they had thought contributed to the sense of community in Oranjemund. It turns out Paul (Mike's brother) submitted Mike's name for the work he has done with this website and Mike got a phonecall this morning to tell him he has won the award!

Sigh... all this "Mike this" and "Mike that"... when we all know that the only reason he won was because I wrote such a superb nomination letter... I mean sure he brought people together who hadn't seen one another for decade... but my writing... oh and sure he got people back to Oranjemund who never thought they's see the place again (mmyyyyy leeeetttteeeeeeeer) and suuuuuure he arranged a reunion of notable success and brought some additional business to Oranjemund... but but but my morivation!!... oh yes and suuuuuuuuuuuure Oranjemund has probably received more PR thorugh this site and his activities than thorugh anything else (grumble.. my writing skill...) and suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure the site has even brought support together for those of us who have experienced losses, battled to cope with illness and needed the support of true friends (but, my unique skill... ....... aaaaah f$ck it, he deserves the recognition - - - well done Mike I'm proud of you boet (and now you get to go around saying: "do you know who I am?"))

This award could not have gone to a more deserving person. For all the long hours, the highs and the lows you both deserve it. From some one who has phoned in a crisis my gratefull thanks, for the times that I have shaked rattled and rolled during month end in the queue, and you guys have helped, my appreciation and for the chats, laughs and help a very very big woo_hoo. Two names Debby and I will never forget – not that my nephew's name is Michael and niece's name is Michelle – but for what you guys did for us ex Oranjemunders over the reunion long weekend.
Words cannot describe the gratitude and appreciation we have for you guys for arranging this for us. We were so happy to be back in town again, even though we did not show it. We left town with very heavy hearts and the conversation in the car back to Cape Town was strangely a lot less than our drive to Oranjemund.
Thanks again for allowing us to see that the town still has a soul, even though it may be a new one, a very good one at that, the people are the soul which keeps the town's heart beating. Keep it that way and good luck to the future of Oranjemund.

Richard you could not have used better words as above to describe what my sense was on returning after so many years ... yes change .. a different soul ,, inevitable yes .. everything moves on in life .. it cannot be static ... lets pray theres enough good souls left behind or new good souls moving in to help make the difference ....
