Title: Price of a bicycle tyre...
Post by: Dalene Steenkamp (Coetzee) on December 02, 2008, 08:32:31 PM
I am no expert on bicycles at all, nor do I know what 'name brands' you get, but please tell me how I can believe the following story:

this client owns a 'grand' type bicycle according to himself  -  the ones the blokes use for riding the Argus etc.  Now he's telling me a story about the tyre that got damaged totally due to the loading rack not being fitted properly  - bike was not level and so the tyre aparrently pressed against the exhaust of the car  -  melted or whatever.  It is going to cost him nearly   R10 000 -00  to replace that tyre, and he want's to claim it from his insurance .   (The bicycle is insured for a total amount of plus minus R40 000  ,  so this means that the tyres on the bike form half the price...)

Fine, Mr Client  -  I just need a quote upfront for a replacement tyre , then I will handle your claim  ......   Now me waiting on client to produce such quote for such expensive tyre.

So tell me...   are these bicycle tyres truly that expensive...   :wow1:     cl1

Dalene ..  its insanity ... I was involved in cycling for many years ... used to do the argus in average  3 1/2  hours with standard cycle and  regular  price tyres  plus minimal training  , regular partying drinking and smoking   .. these  folk  like your  claimant   are involved in the rat race of  being better than  the Jone's  nothing more   .. they buy the  over top best  thinking it  does somthing for their performance .. sadly so  mostly for their ego ...  but yes there are such insane prices around for the fools ... fine for a professional who is sponsored to the hilt ...  but yes ask him for the original invoice  for those tyres .. hell man even car tyres dont cost that much ...      hammer   simpel mense  ....

idontknow  but my brother rides a larney racing bike that costs about R60000.00 much more than my golf.  I can find out if tyres cost that much if you like.

@ Dalene - In a case like this, would you follow up on a quote?  He might just draw one from the internet or create his own on powerpoint?  Sounds like a scam to me as well.  Agree with Sandy, I got just as much fun out of my cheapie special from the mall which I bought for R1000!

@ Bertie  -  nah, no chance of that for......

to go a little technical about short term insurance:   you may specify rims like mags on your car or even damage to the rim of an expensive bicycle like that, but...........     THE TYRES OF YOUR TRANSPORTATION MODE IS NOT COVERED BY YOUR INSURANCE !

If you hit a pothole and your tyre goes and along with that the rim  -  yes, the insurance will pay out for 1 rim if it is a standard rim or will pay out or replace a set of mags if so specified on your insurance, but they do not cover the cost of a tyre.

Take this as a small hint for all you out there:  even if you buy your car with mag rims on it  -  please do mention it to your insurance company that you have mags on your car, for if you damage one of them and the insurance company is not aware of the fact that you have mag rims, they will only cover the cost for 1 standard rim (the type with which that vehicle was fitted when manufactured.)

Most  reasonbly priced  cars nowadays come  standard  with  magnesium alloy  rims  ( hence name  mag  wheels )  then  you have the  lower priced  options on vehicles with  pressed steel  rim with hubcaps ..  Ok so if your  standard  mag rim is damaged it  is covered ..but if you  purchase  non standard  "maak my kar  laat  hy lyk meer vinnig  en impress die chicks "  rims  then you  must disclose that fact ?? do I read correct??
And no I do not  have those "type" of rims fitted  to my car ,,,

Yep Sandy, that's correct.

Also if you put more speakers in you car than what it came out with  -  disclose  (let met not get into the boombox thing again  -  you should also increase your life cover, for sure someone will one day klap you friggen silly...)   shooter
