Calling all OMD'ers
We have a truly delightful elderly couple in our church who say they were in OMD in the 60's. Heinz and Heidi Geiger. He was a surveyer. Any of you remember them and their offspring?
Leon I remember the name so well ... they would surely remeber my folks .. show the family pic ...
shall definitely do so Sandy.
Besides GeorgSWA , I really wish some of the old Oranjemunders in their 60's upwards would embrace the internet...... we are missing the tales of the original Oranjemund from the 50's
spoke to Egon (Heinz) and Heidi Geiger this morning after church.
could not remember the many names they mentioned during our conversation.
Egon and his family were in OMD from 1954 to 1967.
He worked in the surveying department. He mentioned Mr Creedy (John's Dad??) and some other names.
The family lived next door to Andy Murcott (Lecturer at Appie College) in 4th avenue.
Being German, they knew the Machts, Reschkes, Heisers, Meiers, etc fairly well.
There were three children, Heinz(Jun), Martha and Albert.
Heinz teaches at the Elcano school in CT. Will try and get his e-mail address.
I remember the Geiger family - they had a daughter who should be about 48 now
that's correct Uwe, her name is Martha and she is "height challenged".
I now remember the family, they lived in 4th avenue in the 60s close to Mr Dickinson and the Webstocks - E?/4 - behind the newly wedded flats in 5 avenue..
As far as I can remember there was also a house quite close to them that we used to visit that had baby ostriches in their garden.
...I shall mention this to Egon (Heinz) and Heidi when I see them on Sunday....thanks Richard.
That's right Leon - I did confirmation classes in Cape Town with Martha in the "70's. Her parents may remember my parents - Hermann & Hildegard Leube
I shall convey this to Egon and Heidi. Go well Uwe.
@ Leon,
We knew the Gaigers very well, my dad was a good friend of the Geigers, Machts etc.
Hi Pepe. I will chat to Egon and Heidi on Sunday morning and ask them if they remember your family. Go well.

Richard I had to smile now. The word "newly wedded flats", we called them the "breeding flats". You were placed there being newly wedded but moved to a house as soon as you got pregnant. Well mostly, sometimes you had to wait a while because of the housing system. Those years certain houses were allocated to certain departments. I remember Mr Alcock being in charge of that when we lived there.
Thanks Leon, that will be great. Stephanie, you have a very good memory. What you been doing to keep your memory going LOL. Keep well all.
Talking to Hester Fourie, she reckons her husband, Egon FOurie was named after Egon Geiger.... still waiting for them to register on the site, and post their comments...... I know they lurk here...
Could not resist the temptation any longer! Uncle Egon(Geiger) is actually my husband's godfather and he was named after him. Uncle Egon and my father in law(Johan Fourie) and his father in law (Mac Mc Creedy) worked together during the 1960's as surveyors at CDM.
