Perhaps it's just me, but as a young kid growing up in Oranjemund in the 70's, I always remember whilst playing, glancing up at the skies, they were just so big and blue...... not just any blue, but that dark, clear blue.... crystal blue, sparkling blue..... a clean blue...... As I was landing at Oranjemund airport on MOnday at 18h00, the sun was on it's way towards the western curve of the earth, the skies were mostly clear with the odd puff of whiteness here and there, I could see the mine dumps as we descended along the coast, the sun was causing the mighty atlantic to shimmer, a kind of mercury silver...... but the one thing that did stand out, was how brown it all looked .... the Sea and sky, although clear, seemed shrouded in a sticky brown haze, where the ocean should have been blue, it seemed unwell..... the heavens above were no longer the blue heavens I had known, as a kid 30 years ago..... but a rather sickly , smoggy colour..... something we , living in the middle of nowhere had been spared for many a year...... the sickness of this earth has found us....
How I miss those skies.......
They were that nice blue when i visited in November ... maybe just a bad day with dust in the air Mike .. it makes a difference ...
@ Mike, you´re speaking out of my heart
The blue skys in Nam are what i have been longing for since i am back in germany.
Oranjemund is not the best sky, also in my time, when you were born, real blue sky is in the Namib, unsurpassed by any sky i know
The sea was also polluted from Slimes disposal of the plants 30 years ago, when production sizes that will clear up again.....
But you can not have both, untuched nature and work in the mine, thats the price you have to pay iknow
That are my favorite Landscapes in Nam with my musik and Mouthorgan
