Look at the coffin with golden handles
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?
Let's not have a sniffle,
Let's have a bloody good cry
And always remember the longer you live,
The sooner you'll bloody well die
Look at the preacher, bloody well santified (bloody sanctimonious)
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?
Look at the choir boys, bloody castrati
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?
Look at the widow, bloody great female
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?
Look at the mourners, bloody great hippocrites
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?
Look at the flowers, all bloody wilted
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?
Look at the tombstone, bloody great boulder
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?
Look at the whiskey, in buckets and bottles
Isn't it grand boys to be bloody well dead?

Carpenters (OK, laugh..... but she really had a beautiful voice!)
Listening to Pure Cuban .. a stunning album ... emotive .. romantic .. one track brings on the image of a mother stroking the brow of her troubled / sick child .. the pure emotion i picked from that song was reasonably correct .. I'm currently copying it for my good firend Jan of littlefoot farm .. he has a working knowledge of spanish and said yes .. although I could not understand the words I picked up on the emotional content of that one particular song .. .... Been copying the entire Adiemus / Karl Jenkns/ Miriam Stockley/ . collaborations that I have ... his amour from Rumania is totally taken by the genre of music ... It feels good on the soul ...
Karin Carpenter ... yes a wonderful talent and in collaboration with her brother made a wonderful musical team .. pity she had to starve herself to death via anorexia .. a good talent gone forever ...
"The Battle Of North West Six" by the Keef Hartley band...too good!

Shameless plug for Namibian singer Nianell
'Who Painted The Moon' CD and 'Angel Tongue' CD
Gregg, there's 3 "farm theaters" here in Kuilsrivier - small venues for a night of wine, dine and music. I heard that Nianell is coming in the next month or two, but the regulars are not very happy - the usual price has been increased from the usual R140-160, to OVER R400 a ticket. Pity, for it used to be excellent evenings in the "Hoenderhok" and "Plaasteater". rooster notfair
Hi Bertie
I love the woman's music BUT R400 a ticket!?!! That's absolutely crazy! I would never pay that much to see any singer or musician or show! Makes one wonder......
Yes Gregg I also LOVE her music. And it's really sad. Ok, I know the theater only seats about 60-80 people so to make it worth it they do have to ask a bit higher, but then again, those shows are never longer than an hour! In fact, one of my patients doesn't miss any shows there, and she actually mentioned a price of R445 for this show and will also miss out on this one.. Now I wonder whose decision it was to ask so much ---- the venue,.. or the artist...?
To come back to the topic before we get wrapped on the knuckles...
I'm now listening to..... JANIS JOPLIN
Hi Bertie,
Adding my 2c worth about Nianell at Langverwagt; it would probably be the artist asking as unless she's doing an a capella concert with just the piano, it's quite a costly exercise to sort out acoustics, backline, etc, etc. Also, she's now got a bit of an international following so she can start to charge premium prices. Pity for the average bunch like us though - she's damn good.
Do you get a dinner with that price?

ape Do all auld folk moan soooo much, or is it just the English ones?
Anyhow, I am listening to....
"I don't know if you can see the changes
that have come over me
In these last few days I've been afraid that
I might drift away
I've been telling old stories, singing songs that make me
think about where I come from
And that's the reason why I seem so far away today
Chorus
Let me tell you that I love you and I think
about you all the time
Caledonia, you're calling me and now I'm going home
For if I should become a stranger you know that it would
make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had
I have moved on and I've kept on moving - proved the points
that I needed proving
Lost the friends that I needed losing - found others
on the way
I have kissed the ladies and left them crying - stolen
dreams, yes there's no denying
I have travelled hard, sometimes with conscience flying,
somewhere with the wind (Ch)
Now I'm sitting here before the fire, the empty room,
the forest choir
The flames that couldn't get any higher - they've withered
now they've gone
But I'm steady thinking, my way is clear and I know
what I will do tomorrow
When the hands have shaken and the kisses flowed
then I will disappear"

I remember as a kid growing up in Omund in the 70's , My father would always get up early on Sunday
.... to make a full Breakfast, often with Tattie Scones.,.. Bacon Eggs,,,, French toast.... you would awaken to the sound of guns shooting at the Gun CLub (we lived at E7-1st Ave) , the smell of that breakfast...... and above all , Sunday morning was when my dad would be playing all his country records..... Jim Reeves, Charley Pride, Porter Wagner, Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, The Highwaymen to name a few....
Stumbling into the Kitchen, there was a cheerful Jock, standing by the stove, spatchelor in the one hand, the other hand holding a castle lager.....
Somewhere in the lounge, Jim Reeves had started to sing "Old Time Religion!"
