Well, as the times get tough and people move on, the Union is back to Sabre Rattling....... I believe they are resorting to the good old "Race" card to argue their way through these uncertain times.....
It is really sad and to an extent pathetic when certain adult people are a bit too narrow minded to understand what is happening in the global economy and then use race demographics, as a way to argue their points...
When a union resorts to this kind of tactic, it reflects that they indeed have no other "weapon" left to aide their cause.
Nobody in management enjoys or likes to "retrench" or encourage workers to voluntary leave a company.... it is not a pleasure to know that you have to send mothers and fathers off into the uncertain dark world to source an alternative income to look after their children.......
Just my 2 cents,,,,,

Explain some more MIke. What the union been saying.
I was reading the GM's brief today, about the restructuring, and was informed by a person in the union how unhappy the union was with this restructuring..... too many white expats on board... this smacks of racism.... they then listed a whole host of race related complaints about the restructuring...... complained that there was no advertisements or interviews for the postions, the whole thing looks very lily white.... and to an extent one has to agree..... however, we then have to ask, where are the qualified Namibians? Was there not a few of them (whites included) in the previous administration, mining in the wrong spots and wasting money? Is this the right time, when things are so tight to start to play the race card? If the union is not to careful and get a bit too passionate , they might wake up to find that DeBeers are no longer here......
I heard that a union/management meeting ended early last week, with union doing their normal stunt of resorting to the race card..... very frustrating for management and in this type of environment, nothing will be achieved, what is neede now, is cool heads, educated understanding and exceptional leadership from both parties....
This is what I have heard.......
I am a skilled Namibian by birth .. where is their charter of " equality ' seems the equality is just a repeat of the old Nat philosophy of entitlement .. dont these numbskulls know that to become skilled one has to drag onself up by their bootstraps .. its not a case of the fairygodmother waving the wand and saying .. Ok cos you schwartze you suddenly skilled .. sadly so there are a good amount of indigenous folk that yes have the ability , it only requires nurturing .. trust me I done it in my workspace in the dark old 80's I slowly edged out the white and punctual foremen that would just take salary and no responsibity .. and took the most articulate enthusiastic and yes people with skills in their hands and minds .. and have grown them .. not easy cos living in townships their is still a code and to be able to exert fair disciplne etc is something that is a barrier of fear ... but yes I succeed .. and grow people ... sadly so the folk I am growing are mostly coloured and they dont exactly fit into the ANC version equality either ... but thats demographics ...
I see it long time ago......
Nothing has changed, except the other way round
Remember , whatever goes wrong is whites fault,
anything goin well is blacks achievement and....
when all goes wrong, Europe must back up with help......and then listen to what bad people we are shutface
We bad people in Europe have not learned..... Up-out
The MUN had a meeting this evening, much displeasure is being voiced from their side about the new Management structure on the mine.......... it will be interesting to see what happened....
The OTMCO had a meeting this evening at 17h00, I could not make it..... as I was looking after the shop.... but A lot of worried private business owners went...so will have the feedback 2morrow.....

Now could some one please explain to me how this works.........
If mangement tried to lock the Union in a meeting room what would happen?
But the union can try and lock management in a room??????
The a day later the Unions are demanding meetings with the Ministers saying on the local news that all SA work permit holders on all the largest Namibian mines must leave namibia and that they are taking jobs away from Namibians and that they are running the namibian economy into the ground. HELLO there is a world recession has nobody read a friggin newspaper lately?
Yes, lock the Union with management in one room, the only outcome will be as Skynny mentions.
Always distract from the issue by blaming others who are at fault.
Its a shame when they demand removal of SA personnel. What would have happened without them and the skills.
Now that things are going down, you get stupid demands as said.
Politicians and Union, OMG what a sketch...... thumper
