Had a chat with Hannes Mulder today at College.
Hannes worked as a fitter at number 2 plant from '78 to '84.
He clearly remembers the following work colleagues at 2 plant:
Billy McGrath (Foreman)
John Hall
Billy Buchanen
Jannie Louw
Barry Ainsworth
Albert Bester and
Marshall Van Rensburg.
Hannes lived in number 3 2nd Avenue and sends his regards to the family and friends of the above folk.
John Hall, lives out Fish Hoek way.... and Barry is up at Brittania Bay...
...and Marshall is in Monte Vista
yes, I actually bumped into Marshall in Edgemead and Monte Vista some years back when he worked for Jack Hammers hardware. Have not seen him since.
Saw him at last years Tableview reunion ... still pretty much the same old Marshall ....
wonder whatever happened to Eleonor?
Albert Bester has passed away recently.
Is this Hannes Muller , 4 plant fitter - who worked at Koffiefontein Mine late 1980's , and then transfered to Cullinan ?
same guy Hennie. Hannes Mulder now is a colleague of mine at Northlink College Wingfield Campus. He is an instructor in our fitting workshop.
Thanks Leon for the info - re first comment , was it not perhaps MARTIN van Rensburg instead of Marshall. Please give my regards to Hannes ! and his wife , I forgot her name ?
Hi Hennie. Definitely the 'one and only larger than life' Marshall Van Rensburg.
The Maartin I ref. to is brother of Marie Gotch [ Kenith - town garage ] and Duif Whatley [ Fred the Chief sorter ] and he was boilermaker at 4 plant , before career change to Training dept ,
On the black and white pic. one can olso see Marina Bothma. Wife of the fire chief . Can some one help me with his name -
Was'nt the Fire Chief, Kallie (sp) Bothma?
That's right Mike and his brother Eric and sister in law Maritjie (sp) live near us here in Gordon's Bay.
spot on Michael , & Mike. The moment I saw " Kallie " I remembered
His wife had the hairdresses she took it over from marie redl
spot on again - I always went to Marina for a haircut
@ henniek note the pic of Fred and Duif Whatley , posted on the lost diamonds RIP Duif Whatley ,, Fred is still with us , age related problems creeping in that he refuses to accept . Ronel says its hard work keeping him from doing himself harm , still wants to climb ladders and do handywork ..
Thanks Sandy , for the news - always great to hear about old friends
